MOE Participates in the 22nd ALECSO Meeting

The Sultanate took part in the 22nd general conference of the Arab League Education, Culture and Science Organization (ALECSO), which was held in 27-28 of may in Tunisia. The Sultanate’s delegation to the conference was led by Dr Madeeha bint Ahmed al Shaibaniyah, Minister of Education, who delivered a speech where she pointed out that the Sultanate has initiated a comprehensive assessment of the different aspects of its education system. She affirmed the Sultanate’s support to the initiatives made to develop education in the Arab world. She pointed out that the Sultanate’s hosting of the first international meeting for education in the Arab region reflects its commitment to achieve the quality education goals, which will be included in the education agenda post 2015. Muscat Declaration 2014 stressed that the world goal for the agenda is to stress the importance of providing life-long good, fair and comprehensive education by 2030 through the seven aims that have been identified to achieve this goal. HE ended her speech with emphasizing  on the Sultanate’s support the organization aims.

 The Tunisian president mentioned at the opening speech that nations are looking for  coincide between educational system and market’s needs.  He emphasized on the importance of educational diagnosis the recent situation in order to be subject to discuss in the national conference.

Dr Abdullah Maharb, General Director of ALESCO cleared that the organization is in the process of renewing their work through updating their structure and performance. Also he mentioned that they are looking for transformation from theory to practical.

Genk Seite, head of national committees and civil society section representative of UNESCO, mentioned in his speech that there is cooperation between ALESCO and UNESCO for the coming two years in implementing Education Development Plan in Arab World that Arab Countries’ Presidents approved in 2008. He also invited representatives of ALESCO, ABEGS, Europe Council, General Secretariat of Arab States League  to support ALESCO in Education, Curricula and educational program to keep up with requirements of the time.
