MOE wins two awards in the Sultan Qaboos Award for Excellence in eGovernment-2011

Ministry of Education, represented by Oman educational portal won two awards in the competition of Sultan Qaboos Award for Excellence in e-government services - 2011, which was held on Monday, 12th of December at the Grand Hall, Sultan Qaboos University Cultural Centre.

The award ceremony was under the auspices of His Highness Sayyid Shihab bin Tareq al Said, in presence of former U.S. President Bill Clinton. Oman Educational Portal was able to achieve best eProject Individual award and best eService Government to Citizens award. The awards indicate the development in the Ministry of Education in the field of information technology and communications. They are a result of dedicated work and forward planning for the future in order to improve performance of educational, administrative and technical operations, which resulted in victory in this competition.

Oman Educational Portal participated in the category of best educational electronic project individual, which recently won many awards locally, among Arab and internationally such as the United Nations award, Middle East award and GCC Award. Also the ministry participated in the category of best e-service provided to citizens, Students Evaluation Report. It  is a valuable service which save time, effort and cost to parents, school administrations, students and teachers. This service is carried out electronically and linked to messaging service (SMS) and e-mails. Within this category the ministry participated at SMS services which offers a range of services to parents and staff and also participated at the category of best e-service provided to employees. The participation was centered in the operations provided by the Ministry to employees electronically such as holidays and transference reducing many of the traditional administrative procedures.
 
This award contributed to strengthen the strategic dimension of the Ministry of Education to employ modern technology. The ministry is working to develop projects and electronic services to support the strategy of Digital Oman and increase the access to these services in a convenient and easy way to save effort and time. In addition, the ministry pays a serious attention to educational techniques, training and rehabilitation of national cadres and upgrading of technical knowledge in all fields related to digital literacy within the educational community.

Oman Educational Portal Awards:

1- First place award for best website in Sultanate of Oman in 2007.
2- First place award for best educational website in the Sultanate of Oman in 2007.
3-  Third place in the category of best educational website in the Sultanate of Oman in 2008.
4-  Second place in the category of best electronic project in E-digital Oman Award in 2009.
5-  Second place award for best educational website in the Sultanate of Oman in 2010.
6-  Best Arabic e-content in Sultanate of Oman in 2010.
7-  Innovative Design award of E-government Shield Award in Arab world in 2010.
8-  Second place award in the category of ministries websites for Arab region in 2010.
9- Best e-Readiness Award, best developed ministry electronically in the competition of Sultan Qaboos Award for Excellence in e-government services – 2010.
10-   First place award in United Nations competition in the category of improving services delivery to the public in 2011.
11-  Middle East Award for best e-initiatives in 2011.
12-  First place award in the category of ministries websites for the Arab region in 2011.
13-  Visual innovation award of E-government Shield Award Competition in Arab World in 2011.
14-  Second place award for best educational website in the Sultanate of Oman in 2011.
15-  Best e-portal award in the category of development sectors in GCC in 2011.
16-  Best eProject Individual award in the competition of Sultan Qaboos Award for Excellence in e-government services – 2011.
17-  Best e-service provided to citizens award, Students Evaluation Report in the competition of Sultan Qaboos Award for Excellence in e-government services – 2011.
