Shell Road Safety Awards 2012 is announced.

Her Excellency Dr. Madeha bint Ahmed Al-Shibaniah, the Minister of the Education signed the results of the final evaluation of Shell Road safety Award for the academic year 2012\2013. The competition is sponsored by Shell Development Company in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Royal Oman Police.

The winners will be honored at the closing ceremony which will be held on the 13th of the month under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Sa’adi, Minister of the Health, Dr. Madeha bint Ahmed Al-Shibaniah, the Minister of the Education and John Blascos the General Manager of Shell Company in the Sultanate and a number of militants, undersecretaries and directors from several governmental and private sector institutions.

It’s worth to mention that the event will also launch the forthcoming competition for the academic year 2013/14 entitled “Driving is Model and Art”; in new scopes such as car service ,riding motorbikes, over-speed ,pedestrians and using mobile phones in the car. Since it was first inaugurated in 2005, Shell Road Safety Awards has been mainly focusing on projects, researches, stories and drawings that express road safety issues and problems, through studying a certain phenomenon and proposing solutions to deal with it. In addition, the Awards has also been concerned with proposing initiatives and necessary actions to correct inappropriate traffic practices as well as reinforce the appropriate practices. Over speeding, using mobiles while driving, pedestrian safety, child safety, and crossing red traffic light are main areas of concern in this year’s Shell Road Safety Awards competition.

The prizes of the awards total to R.O. 13,275/-, divided as following: a total of R.O. 9000/- for the best three school projects. A total of R.O. 1,300/- for the best five workshops conducted teachers. A total of R.O.1000 for best five researches conducted by students. A total of R.O. 1000/- for best five stories conducted by students. In addition, a total of R.O. 975/- for the best 12 drawings conducted by students.

Shell Road Safety Awards contributes actively in raising road safety awareness among all the members of the community; thus all the public and private schools in the Sultanate are to take part in the competition in order to encourage the concerned people in the educational sector to produce projects, researches, workshops, stories, drawings and any other related activity that would instill and inspire them with road safety values.
