Under the auspices of H.E Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamdan Al Tobi adviser to the Ministry of Education, a Regional Meeting about the coasts and the sustainable use of sea resources was held at Majan Hotel at Muscat Governorate.
It was organized by Oman National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, in cooperation with the regional office of the Islamic Organization for Education, Science and Culture (ISESCO). The meeting lasted for three days. In addition to the Sultanate, eight Arab countries participated in the meeting, UAE, Jordan, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Yaman, KSA, Egypt and Syria.
Organization of this meeting in the framework of ongoing efforts was to support sustainable development in the countries members in ISESCO as it is the most central tenets of the comprehensive development that governments seek to achieve to develop their societies and better living standards for their children. (ISESCO) is keen to help countries to find effective mechanisms to maintain this natural wealth, develop, sustain and protect them from risks. The meeting aims to stand on the reality of the coast and sea sources of Arab countries and study the obstacles and difficulties to protect them. It also aims to discuss the scientific frameworks to develop coasts in the Arab countries and discuss the laws, regulations and international legislation which are relevant to coasts and seas. It was also to discuss the experiences of participating countries to take advantage of them in the promotion of Arab scientific expertise in this area.
