International Scout Meeting for Cultures Exchange & Civilization Recognition Rolled out

The 16th International Scout Meeting for the Exchange of Cultures and Civilizations was opened yesterday at the Auditorium of the Ministry of Education under the patronage of Mustafa bin Ali bin Abdullatif, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education for Administrative and Financial Affairs. The Sultanate hosts the meeting from September 5 to 13 under the theme “Our Heritage. Bridges to Understanding, Building for the Future’ with participation of 35 countries.

Khamis bin Salim al Rasbi, Director-General of the Scouts and Guides, stressed in his speech that the meeting reflects the most beautiful sense of brotherhood, friendship and mutual understanding among the youth of the world. He noted that the scouts and guides of Oman sought co-operation, coordination and integration with the Arab Scout Region and the Omani National Commission for Education, Culture and Science to meet the aspirations of the participants in the exchange of cultures and civilizations, discovering a new country full of tradition and a civilization deeply rooted in human history in the Sultanate.

Atef Abdul Majid Ahmed, Secretary-General of Arab Scout Organization praised in his speech the efforts of the Sultanate and its prominent role in the activation of the Scout movement at the Arab and international levels. He said that these meetings will contribute to achieving the overall objectives of the Scout movement, which allow youths to become active citizens participating in building their communities.

At the end of the ceremony, the chief guest underlined the importance of the international meeting in the rapprochement among youth, saying that the International Scout meeting is an opportunity to discover the Sultanate’s civilizational and historic role, as well as identifying its natural, cultural and tourist features. He added that the participation of 35 countries will contribute to communication between civilizations and cultures, the activation of the role of young people, enhancing their contribution to the dissemination of the values of world peace.

The 35 countries who participate in the gathering along with the Sultanate are Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Lebanon, Kuwait, Libya, Bahrain, UAE, Syria, Tunisia, Algeria, Sudan, Palestine, Qatar, Nigeria, Armenia, Colombia, Malaysia, Ghana, Senegal, Uganda, Mauritius, Malta, Moldova, Pakistan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Finland, Denmark, Britain, Tanzania, Madagascar, Cameroon, Chad and South Africa
