The international symposium on beaches environmental measures and their role in coastal protection started last Monday in Oasis Club. The event was under the auspices of Mohammed bin Salim Al Toobi, Minister of Environment and Climate Affairs. The symposium organized by the Omani National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) and Mohammed VI Foundation for the Protection of the Environment in the Kingdom of Morocco in cooperation with the National Field Research Center in the field of conservation of environment in the Diwan of Royal Court and the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs, in addition to the Photographic Society with the participation of a number of national institution related to environmental issues. Also, representatives of a number of ISESCO member states also attended the symposium The three-day symposium aimed at exchanging experiences among participants in the field of beaches environmental measures and coast protection, presenting experiences from ISESCO member states on how to preserve beaches in light of the urban expansion of coastal cities and the accompanying tourism and industrial investments. In addition to the discussion of various environmental issues and the subsequent destruction of the beaches. The symposium also aimed to build partnerships between the participants and institutions related to environmental protection and support their capacities in this field, and environmental awareness about the importance of coastal conservation and coastal environment. Moreover, the patron of the event sponsored the launch of the film “Marine Environment in the Sultanate of Oman” produced by the National Field Research Center in the field of conservation of environment at the Diwan of Royal Court. The film was the result of the field research studies of the Centre in the field of environment. The first day of the symposium included two working sessions focusing on the characteristics and areas of the marine environment. The second session dealt with the governance of sustainable coastal measures.
