Symposium of Educational Integration with Citizenship and Common Global Values in Muscat

Under the patronage of H.E.Dr.Humood Al Harthi, the Undersecretary of MoE for Education and Curriculum, the Deputy Chief of Oman National Committee for Culture and Science presided over the opening ceremony of the regional symposium of educational integration with the citizenship and common global values and in presence of H.E.Dr.Saeed Al Rubai, the General Secretary of Education Council, H.E.the Respected State Council members and others. Also, Oman National Committee for Education, Culture and Science with the collaboration with SQU and UNESCO education office in Beirut and took place in Levatio Hotel in Muscat for three days.
In addition, the symposium aimed to introduce the participants with the concepts of educational citizenship and common global values, deepen the important of education in teachers# preparation programs, launches Arabic electronic platform of educational citizenship and the common global citizenship and establish common applicable work plan including education on the global citizenship at teachers# preparation programs.
Moreover, the opening ceremony of seminar began with speech by Mohammed Al Yaqoobi, the Secretary of Oman National Committee for Education, Science and Culture where he said the seminar reflected the Sultanate government interest under the leadership of His Majesty the Sultan Qaboos to promote the values of education for citizenship to enable learners to work for a more peaceful, inclusive and sustainable world. He stressed that education for citizenship reflected the goal of education to go beyond the provision of education, "to ensure comprehensive and equitable education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all." The Sultanate has always focused on promoting the values of citizenship, the educational system in the Sultanate of Oman is concerned with the global dimension in the development of the personality of the learner since the first Omani Renaissance years, and, In 1977, His Majesty the Sultan, clarified the goal of education by saying: "Education should not only remain a means of educating the individual, but also of building his personality so that Oman plays an important role in world affairs. Then, Yotak Chang, the Director of UNESCO Regional Center for Education in Asia and Pacific Ocean in Korea also delivered another speech where he clarified that the role of the Center in supporting global citizenship and the cooperation of the Center with various countries, especially the Arab countries. He also spoke about the importance of cooperation and guiding the efforts of States in supporting and promoting the values of citizenship through their integration into educational systems.
In addition, the seminar program included three sessions that contained a number of work papers such as Dr.Masoon Shihab presented a paper where she focused on the educational concepts upon the global citizenship and human values and added that the main target of education is not preparing individuals to be capable of reading and writing, but facing the first century challenges and she also talked about regional and international advertisements and agreements. Also, the second work paper presented by Dr.Mohammed Abo Namer from King Abdullah bin Abd Al Azeez Center for Dialogues between Religions titled # Education upon Global Citizenship and Religion Dialogues# where he stressed on the common Commonalities between people which is the stone on which relations should be built and that religious identity is the most basic identity that brings together peoples.
