MoE Organizes A Scientific Seminar for Science Subject Distribution

The Ministry of Education held on Monday at its headquarters a discussion seminar on the study plan for science subject distribution of ninth and tenth grades, under the patronage of Dr Madeeha bint Ahmed al Shaibaniyah, Minister of Education, with presence of representatives of some government institutions concerned with education, such as the Education Council, the Education Committees of the State Council and Majlis Ash’shura, MoHE, Sultan Qaboos University, schools principals and officials from MoE.
HE opened the seminar with a speech where she talked about education in Oman, its important and the most important projects and programs implemented by the ministry. She mentioned that the ministry believes on the importance of providing an appropriate environment for teaching science so it worked over the last three years on the project of re-furnish science labs in schools at a total cost nearly five million riyals. Also, it began in the executive steps to adopt international series in the developing science and mathematics curricula, which are expected to be applied in the field next year for first to fourth grades. HE added that Despite all the efforts done by the Ministry during the past years in developing teaching science and mathematics, but the results of the students are still below the level of the ministry ambitions.
The analytical studies carried out by the Ministry on a regular basis indicate a general weakness in the level of scientific subjects and this is reflected in the input of higher education. She ended her speech by the importance of revising the system of science curricula for grades 9 and 10 in line with global developments, society needs, labor market requirements, education systems and IBE recommendations.
 DR. Yahya bin Khamis Al Harthi, Director General of Directorate General of Curricula Development in MoE, presented a proposal of MoE Study plan for science subject distribution of ninth and tenth grades.
This was followed by the opening discussion for participants in the seminar to express their views and suggestions about the study plan and related aspects.
