28th Arab Scouting Conference Opens
Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq al- Said, Advisor to His Majesty the Sultan today sponsored at Al Bustan Palace Hotel the opening of the 28th Arab Scouting Conference hosted by the Ministry of Education represented by the Directorate General of Scouts and Guides in collaboration with the Arab Scouting Organization. The opening ceremony was attended by Dr. Madiha bint Ahmed al- Shibaniyah, Minister of Education, Jo o Gon alves, World Scout Committee Chairman, Yousef Khadaj, Chairman of the Arab Scouting Committee, Dr. Atef Abdul Majeed Ahmed, Secretary General of the Arab Scouting Organization, heads and members of the scouting delegations. The ceremony started with a speech by Dr. Madiha bint Ahmed al- Shibaniyah, Minister of Education where she said that the conference brings together a number of specialists in the scouting sector from the different Arab countries to standardize vision and crystalize ideas in order to reach the prospective goals. She added that the Sultanate hosts the 28th Arab Scouting Conference, under the theme, ‘Scouting and Environment Promotion’ after almost 32 years of hosting the 16th conference in 1984 which saw the development of the Arab scouting strategy. Jo o Gon alves, World Scout Committee Chairman delivered a speech where he said that at the previous conference, we adopted a strategy to develop and nurture scouting movement by enabling 100 million scouts around the world and make them affiliates to the scouting movement. We always seek to help them to continue with the scouting movement to be good citizens and a source of priced for their countries, as well as the Arab and international scouting movement. The ceremony included a performance by young scouts and guides where they welcomed the guests and reflected His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said, the Supreme Scout of the Sultanate interest in preserving environment and its resources. The scouting music band staged some music performances and a documentary on the environmental and biodiversity in the Sultanate was displayed.
