Oman was keen to make the sustainable development as the fundamental base of development in the fields of social, economic and culture. The Sultanate throughout its long history showed the principles of tolerance and understanding between cultures.
Dr. Madiha bint Ahmed Al Shibaniyah, Chairperson of Oman National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, delivered the Sultanate speech while presided over the delegation to the 38th round of UNISCO general conference in Paris, with presence of a number of participants. In her speech, Dr. Madiha conveyed His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said’s greetings along with his wishes of further success, and thanked HE Irina Bokova, Director-General of UNESCO for the role she played to achieve the organization's objectives and congratulated HE Stanley Mutumba Semana, Deputy Minister of Information and communication Technologies in Namibia, for his election as the Chairman of the UNESCO General Conference in its Eighth Session, and wished him best of success in the work performance.
Next, she explained that the year 2015 represented the beginning of a transition toward international community work after the United Nations apex adopted the ambitious plan for sustainable development 2030, which matched with UNESCO's mission. The education national strategy project 2040 stressed the need for the compatibility of education system lanes in various stages with the national objectives of sustainable development and its requirements.
Then, she mentioned the material and moral supports given by the Sultanate for the project of electronic podium of the Silk Road adopted by UNESCO, as a part of the Sultanate interests in communication between civilizations issues.
She also indicated that despite the gains the world achieved at the last period in the field of education, there are still many challenges represented a major concern for governments and educational institutions like improving education and linking it to the labor market in a sustainable world based on knowledge.
After that, she spoke about Sultan Qaboos Prize for environment preservation and explained that the international community emphasized the need to address climate change, natural disasters and the deterioration of biodiversity, and so that urged us to pay more concerns about the causes of climate changes.
HE concluded her speech explaining that UNESCO played a great role to spread its message for peace, justice and freedom throughout the world. Of course, that enhanced people responsibilities to maintain humanitarian contributions to this organization to have a bright successful future.
