Dr. Madiha bint Ahmed Al Shibaniyah, Chairperson of Oman National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, gave away in Budapest, Hungary, the 2015 UNESCO Sultan Qaboos Prize for Environmental Preservation won by Wetlands Research Group of the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The celebration was organized in Budapest as part of the celebrations of the World Science Forum and the Silver Jubilee of the prize. The celebration was attended by a number of ministers of education participation in the World Science Forum.
In her speech, Dr. Madiha conveyed His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said’s greetings along with His Majesty’s wishes of further success in the scientific efforts for maintaining sustainable development and enhancement of world peace and prosperity. She said the prize is given in appreciation of the contributions of individuals and institutions in the field of preservation of environment. The prize has focused on enhancement of awareness on environment issues
On climate change, she said that Oman expresses its commitment to fighting climate change.

UNESCO Sultan Qaboos Prize for Environmental Protection came within outstanding contributions of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos in protecting the environment, in order to consolidate the concern of environment as an important part of the development process.
It aimed, when announced, to invite scientists, educators, intellectuals, associations and specialized institutes to work to reduce risks to the environment, which are increasingly important due to the increasing activities by man and which disturb the balance between the elements of the environment that surrounds us.
