Sultan Qaboos University will host ‘The National Symposium of Youth & Radio’ next Thursday

As the international community marks the 2015 edition of World Radio Day on 13 February, Sultan Qaboos University will host ‘The National Symposium of Youth & Radio’ next Thursday in partnership with (Public Authority of Radio & TV (PART) and UNESCO, under the principal theme ‘The promotion of youth in radio’. The event aims to call for greater awareness among youth on the importance of radio, exchange knowledge, enhance radio in a wider society, as well as utilizing radio as a critical tool for shaping a sustainable development.

The symposium targets media professionals, university students in media and journalism disciplines and media group in schools. It will outline working papers on youth and radio, radio in being facilitators for sustainable development and knowledge, in addition to introducing virtual experiences like Al Shabab FM, Hala FM, and Al Wisal. 

The UNESCO’s 36th General Conference proclaimed 13 February as World Radio Day, the day United Nations Radio was established in 1946. This initiative stems from cooperation improvement with world organizations in recognizing radio is the most prevalent mass medium, with the capability to spread awareness of radio significance among society segments.
