Ministry of Education celebrates with Arab countries the Arab Literacy Day

The Sultanate celebrates the Arab Literacy Day on eighth of January every year, which is an important event to activate the fight against illiteracy, to raise awareness and to highlight the Sultanate activities and projects in literacy and adult education.

Arab League Council made a decision on eighth of January 1966 to establish the Arab literacy agency as one of the specialized agencies of Arab Organization for Education, Science and Culture and then later the day was selected to become the Arab literacy Day.

Ministry of Education, represented by Department of Continuous Education has sought since the beginning of literacy activities in the Sultanate to keep updated of all the developments in literacy and adult education through the renewal of educational materials, programs, projects, training, methods of teaching and learning techniques to achieve the desired objectives. Some of the projects which are applied by Ministry of Education are educated village, Omani women's associations help project, Literacy for special cases, Ministry of Education employees Literacy.
