International studies Department in Directorate General of Educational Evaluation in the Ministry of Education currently implement introductory workshops in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS2015) for teachers in all directorates. The workshops aim to introduce the study, its aims, the organizer, the test tool and school, math teacher, science teacher, student, guardian questionnaire. Also, the participants will be trained on multi choice and essay questions in addition to a practical training in order to formulate number of questions from various knowledge aspects and discuss them.
The specialists who are implementing these workshops will review the previous participation results and results of pilot survey that implemented during the last academic year in six directorates.
It is worth mentioning that TIMSS concerns on studying international trends in mathematics and science of grades four and eight. Also it investigates students’ achievements in those subjects in more than 60 educational systems all over the world. The study is designed to measure the differences between the national educational systems and interpret these differences to develop the education in science and mathematics of the participated countries. The Sultanate participates with 308 schools of grade four, 310 schools of grade eight and some private and international schools. Some schools participate in both grades four and eight. The participated schools have been chosen by International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA)based in Holland.
