The 40th anniversary of the Oman National Society for Education, Culture and Science (Onsecs) was celebrated on Monday under the auspices of the Minister of Education Her Excellency Dr Madiha Bint Ahmed Al Shibaniyah.
Onsecs secretary-general Mohammed Saleem Al Yaqoubi addressed the gathering that included its general assembly members, top brass from the Arab League Educational Cultural and Scientific Organisation and Unesco delegates from Doha. A documentary was screened showing the Omani sites that feature in Unesco’s World Heritage list. These include Bahla fort, falaj irrigation system, prehistoric tombs of Bat and the frankincense trees of Dhofar.
After the presentation, Dr Madiha inaugurated a new website of Onsecs and also signed the souvenir of the commission that enumerates its achievements since its inception. In the presence of Al Yaqoubi, Madiha also gave away mementos to the foreign invitees and delegates of Onsecs.
