The Ministry of Education, represented by the Khazna Project to Instill the Principles of Financial Literacy, in cooperation with the Financial Services Authority and the Oman Debate Center, concluded the activities of the Khazna Student Debate Championship in financial literacy for students of grades (10-11) at the level of educational directorates in the governorates, under the patronage of HE Abdullah bin Salem Al-Salmi, CEO of the Financial Services Authority, and in the presence of HE Majid bin Said Al-Bahri, Undersecretary of the Ministry for Administrative and Financial Affairs, and a number of teachers and supervisors in the project, and the participating students.
The championship concluded with a remarkable finale, reflecting the strong student participation and the high level of awareness demonstrated by the debaters throughout the various rounds. The teams distinguished themselves by their ability to analyze the issues in depth and construct clear arguments based on accurate information and current financial data. The students skillfully employed persuasive techniques, presenting logical arguments supported by evidence. They also demonstrated their ability to conduct high-level discussions characterized by focus, balance, and respect for differing opinions. This dynamic dialogue enriched the event with a valuable educational and intellectual dimension, reflecting the development of students' skills and their growing financial literacy. It also highlighted the positive impact of the initiative in enhancing communication skills and instilling the values of critical thinking and teamwork within the school environment.
The competitions included discussions on a number of current financial issues, such as the approach to financial literacy, freelance work as a career option, financial awareness among the current generation, the role of experience and education in acquiring financial literacy, the future of digital currencies, as well as a discussion of the relationship between poverty and financial awareness, the role of the family as the primary source of knowledge, the impact of financial management on the success of projects, and the extent to which the digital generation is exposed to financial fraud.
At the end of the competitions, the results of the championship were announced, with the Al Batinah South Governorate winning first place after a strong performance and distinguished dialogue presence, followed by the Al Batinah North Governorate in second place thanks to solid participation and a clear ability to persuade, while the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate came in third place after a performance that reflected cognitive maturity and advanced analytical skills. These results came as an embodiment of the efforts of the educational governorates in developing students’ skills, enhancing their financial literacy, and developing their dialogue abilities.
The championship aims to enable students to employ dialogue and debate skills in analyzing contemporary financial issues, enhance their financial awareness and link it to the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, in addition to refining their presentation, argument building and decision-making skills, and building an interactive platform that combines financial knowledge and high-level dialogue competition.
