The Ministry of Education, represented by the Directorate-General for Curriculum Development, honored the winning students in the Holy Quran Competition for the academic year 2024/2025. The honoring ceremony was patronaged by HE Dr. Laila bint Ahmed Al-Najjar, Minister of Social Development, and in the presence of HE Dr. Madiha bint Ahmed Al-Shaibaniyah, Minister of Education, Their Excellencies, a number of invitees, and the parents of the honored students.
Dr. Sulaiman Al-Jamoudi, Director-General of the Directorate-General for Curriculum Development, delivered the Ministry's speech, stating: "The Holy Quran Competition is a shining beacon that strengthens the love of the Book of Allah the Almighty in the hearts of our sons and daughters, instills in them the meanings of contemplation and acting upon the noble verses, and contributes to building a conscious generation that embodies the message of the Quran in character and conduct. Our gathering today affirms our commitment to the Holy Quran, a fundamental pillar in building the individual and society, and a significant support for and alignment with the ongoing renaissance."
In his speech, he stressed that the Ministry is keen to continue the development process of the Holy Quran competition, as the Ministry has worked on building an electronic application for the competition within the electronic school Quran, and it represents a qualitative leap in the mechanisms of registration, follow-up and evaluation and will enhance the access of the competition’s services to everyone, with the hope that it will be launched at the next fiftieth ceremony, to form a pioneering step towards digital transformation in the service of the Holy Quran.
He concluded his speech by saying: “Caring for the Holy Quran is a mission that transcends local boundaries. Therefore, our children participated in some international competitions, and they had an honorable experience last year in the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Holy Quran Competition, where they represented the Sultanate of Oman in the best possible way and gained valuable experiences that contributed to raising the level of performance and enhancing their confidence in international Quranic forums. Praise be to Allah; they achieved advanced positions and were honored.”
The competition included three tracks: the general memorization competition track, which was dedicated to early education, basic education, and post-basic education students in government and private schools, and it included six levels of memorization. The second track was the special memorization competition, which was dedicated to students with disabilities in private schools and schools implementing auditory and intellectual integration in educational directorates, and it had three levels of memorization. This track included the competition for students with visual impairments and the competition for students with intellectual disabilities. The third track of the competition was dedicated to mastering recitation and a good voice, and it is a competition concerned with the good recitation of the Quran and mastering the application of the rules of Tajweed.
The ceremony honoring the winning students included selected readings from the students participating in the competition, an operetta performed by a group of students, a visual presentation, recorded interviews with the contestants, honoring the students participating in the competition, (73) winners in the different competition tracks, 23 schools, and 25 student supervisors.
The Ministry seeks, through supporting and paying attention to the Holy Quran competition for students of schools in the Sultanate of Oman on an annual basis, to promote the importance of the Holy Quran in the hearts of students, to give them an Islamic identity, to serve the Islamic education curricula in all educational stages, to improve the linguistic repertoire, to give the student the ability to read correctly with recitation and a good voice, to revive the spirit of competition and love of learning, and to qualify students to participate in local and international competitions.
