The Ministry of Education organized the “Global Excellence Week” event under the slogan “Think Different”, with wide participation from specialists and those interested in excellence in education and institutional development, under the patronage of Dr. Said Al-Amri, Head of the Office of HE the Minister, and in the presence of a number of directors general, experts, and specialized staff in the sectors of excellence, planning and development.
The program opened with a speech from the Directorate-General of Strategic Planning and Development, delivered by Saleh Al-Falahi, Director of the Quality Department. He highlighted the importance of fostering a culture of excellence within the Ministry and the pivotal role of modern institutional practices in achieving distinction and enhancing performance efficiency. Al-Falahi emphasized that World Excellence Week serves as a vital platform for showcasing best practices, exchanging expertise, and building institutional awareness capable of aligning with the priorities of Oman Vision 2040.
This was followed by a presentation by Dr. Khalifa Al-Fathi, Head of the Strategic Planning Department, in which he reviewed the most prominent objectives of the Ministry related to achieving the priorities of Oman Vision 2040, and the strategic directions that the Ministry is working on within the framework of improving the quality of education and ensuring the sustainability of institutional development. The presentation included key initiatives in planning, performance development, resource management, and transformation projects in educational and administrative systems.
Dr. Masada Al-Jahwari, Deputy Director of the Quality Assurance Office at Sultan Qaboos University, presented a paper entitled: “Identity and Culture of Quality Assurance in Higher Education.” In her presentation, she addressed the foundations for building a culture of quality in higher education institutions, practices that have contributed to strengthening the academic community’s confidence in educational systems, and key lessons learned that can be applied in public education institutions.
Ali Al-Maawali (Senior Studies and Follow-up Specialist) delivered a presentation on “Institutional Excellence,” addressing contemporary standards, indicators, and methodologies for evaluating institutional performance. He also discussed the role of these standards in enhancing an organization's readiness and enabling it to compete at the local and regional levels. He highlighted the importance of continuously measuring performance indicators and their integration with the quality management system.
The session also witnessed a specialized presentation by Dr. Nasser Al-Batashi (Senior Quality Specialist), in which he discussed the Ministry’s experience in implementing improvement projects, reviewing examples of programs actually implemented in schools and directorates, and their direct impact on improving educational and administrative services, and reducing waste in time and resources, through the application of Lean methodologies, PDCA methodology and other continuous improvement tools.
Following the main program, HE Dr. Ali Al-Jahwari, Advisor to the Minister of Education for Ministry Security Affairs, inaugurated the accompanying exhibition in the lobby of the Ministry’s General Diwan, in the presence of participants and guests. The exhibition included a wide range of interactive and awareness-raising corners designed to enhance employees’ awareness of quality methodologies and institutional excellence.
The exhibition included a number of high-quality activities, most notably: successful experiences in the Lean methodology; a section showcasing real-world examples of practices implemented by the ministry's directorates that successfully increased procedural efficiency, reduced unnecessary steps, and achieved tangible results in a short time; a section introducing visitors to the ministry's most important strategic projects related to the four pillars of Oman Vision 2040: People and Society, Economy and Development, Governance and Institutional Performance, and Sustainable Environment; a detailed presentation of locally and internationally adopted standards for measuring institutional readiness and linking them to the actual performance of various departments and divisions; a section displaying the ministry's indicator system, the levels of progress achieved, and the mechanisms for continuous monitoring to achieve optimal performance; an interactive activity introducing employees in an engaging way to the five steps of organizing the work environment: sorting, arranging, cleaning, standardizing, and sustaining—one of the effective tools of the Lean methodology; a knowledge competition based on employee interaction with questions reflecting concepts of quality, excellence, and institutional proficiency, aimed at encouraging employees to submit applicable ideas to improve services, reduce waste, and increase operational efficiency; and an environmental initiative aimed at raising awareness of sustainability and encouraging employees to actively participate in it. Green initiatives, and an interactive space to enhance communication between attendees and exchange experiences in a comfortable atmosphere.
The Directorate-General of Strategic Planning and Development affirmed the Ministry's continued commitment to strengthening these programs and initiatives, thereby consolidating a culture of quality and contributing to enhancing the readiness of the education sector and achieving the goals of Oman Vision 2040.
