The Ministry of Education is participating in the World Chinese Language Conference 2025, which is being held at the China National Convention Center in the capital, with broad participation that includes more than (30) countries, in addition to governmental and non-governmental organizations, universities, centers specializing in teaching the Chinese language, teacher training, and companies that provide e-learning services for learning and teaching the Chinese language.
The conference was inaugurated under the patronage of the Vice Premier of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, and in the presence of the Chinese Minister of Education, prominent figures from various participating countries, and representatives from governmental and non-governmental organizations. The Ministry of Education's delegation was headed by Ali Al-Harthi, Director-General of the Directorate-General of Education in the Al-Dakhiliyah Governorate and included specialists from the Directorate-General for Curriculum Development and several principals of schools implementing Chinese language instruction in the Muscat and Al-Dakhiliyah Governorates.
During the opening ceremony, the Minister of Education of the People’s Republic of China delivered a welcoming speech to the participating delegations, noting the interest of Chinese President Xi Jinping in spreading and teaching the Chinese language, building bridges of communication, cooperation and linguistic exchange, and promoting mutual understanding between peoples, explaining that teaching the Chinese language internationally has achieved fruitful results and has become accessible to the general public in various countries.
The opening ceremony included speeches by several participating education ministers, who discussed their countries' experiences in teaching Chinese. Following this, parallel sessions focused on intelligent adaptation and innovation in Chinese language learning and exploring smart education through human-machine collaboration. On the second day, parallel sessions were held that centered on developing practical Chinese language skills based on practice and innovation, enhancing the digital proficiency of international Chinese language teachers, and building a collaborative framework for strategies and a roadmap for teaching Chinese.
The Ministry participated in the Language Education and Cultural Exchange Forum between China and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, which was held on the sidelines of the conference. Ali Al-Harthi delivered a speech on behalf of the Ministry of Education, which included the Sultanate of Oman’s experience in teaching the Chinese language and cooperation in educational and linguistic fields with the People’s Republic of China. Representatives of the GCC countries presented their countries’ experiences in teaching the Chinese language and promoting linguistic and cultural cooperation with China.
On the sidelines of the conference, the Omani delegation visited the pavilions of Chinese universities and publishing houses at the accompanying exhibition and held meetings with officials at the International Language Exchange Center of the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in teaching the Chinese language and developing the professional competencies of those working in the educational process in the Sultanate of Oman. The parallel sessions of the conference continued followed by the announcement of the conclusion of the conference.
It is worth mentioning that the Ministry of Education began at the beginning of the current academic year 2025/2026 to teach the Chinese language as an optional subject in the eleventh grade in (4) government schools in the governorates of Muscat and Al Dakhiliyah.
