Education and Career Opportunities Forum in Duqm to Promote Alignment between Education and Labor Market

The Ministry of Education, represented by the Career Guidance and Student Counseling Center, in cooperation with the Special Economic Zone at Duqm, and with the support of the “Tawasul” Foundation, organized the “Education and Career Opportunities – Duqm” forum, under the patronage of HE Sheikh Ahmed bin Muslim bin Suhail Al Kathiri, Governor of Al Wusta, and in the presence of a number of Their Excellencies the Governors, Directors-General of the Directorates-General, representatives of governmental and private entities, and higher education institutions, with the participation of (20) higher education institutions, and (10) institutions from the governmental and private sectors, targeting students of grades (9-12) from schools in Al Wusta Governorate, parents, teaching staff, career guidance specialists, in addition to representatives of public and private sector institutions in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm.

Sheikh Yaqoub Al-Shahimi, Director-General of the Career Guidance and Student Counseling Center, affirmed that the forum aims to raise the level of academic and future readiness of school students and equip them with the skills necessary for the needs of the labor market, enabling them to link their academic choices with university and professional specializations according to scientific and skill-based foundations. He pointed out that cooperation with the Special Economic Zone in Duqm and the Tawasul Foundation represents an important step towards achieving the goals of Oman Vision 2040, by highlighting promising opportunities in the economic sectors in Al-Wusta Governorate, and enabling students to explore education, employment, and entrepreneurship paths.

On his part, Saif Al-Manji, Acting CEO of the “Tawasul” Foundation, explained that the Foundation places supporting the education and vocational training sector at the forefront of its development priorities, through sponsoring initiatives that work to align education outputs with the needs of the labor market, and to enhance partnerships between educational institutions and the private sector.

Talal Al-Bartamani, Head of Partnership and Development at the Special Economic Zone in Duqm, affirmed that organizing this forum embodies the region’s commitment to supporting national initiatives that promote the integration of education with labor market requirements and contribute to preparing qualified national cadres capable of contributing to development projects in the region. He added that the partnership with the Ministry of Education and the “Tawasul” Foundation enables students to learn about future career paths and promising opportunities in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.

The forum's activities include an education and career opportunities exhibition, specialized awareness workshops in career guidance and entrepreneurship, a professional dialogue session with a select group of experts, and an official opening ceremony featuring national performances and the honoring of participating entities. Additionally, Petroleum Development Oman's Knowledge World Center presents a planetarium experience as part of its community programs, aiming to enhance environmental and astronomical awareness among visitors through interactive visual displays that combine entertainment and knowledge in the fields of environment and space, supporting the company's mission to disseminate knowledge and promote a culture of sustainability.
