The Omani School Sports Association launched its plan and programs for the academic year 2025/2026, under the patronage of HE Prof. Dr. Abdullah bin Khamis Ambosaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education for Education and Chaiman of the Association. The plan included more than (20) diverse activities of competitions, festivals and forums that will be implemented in the educational directorates under the supervision of the sports committees, some of which will be in the assembly system in the Governorate of Muscat, in the presence of a number of CEOs, company officials, heads of sports unions, a number of directors and members of sports committees in the educational directorates. The launching ceremony took place at Hormuz Hotel Muscat.
The ceremony began with a speech by Safaa Al Salmi, a member of the Omani School Sports Association’s Board of Directors, who said: "Since the establishment of the Omani School Sports Association in 2016, we have continuously strived to advance the school sports system by implementing activities, events, and initiatives that empower the school environment, support its key players, and reinforce the value of sports as a lifestyle deeply rooted in student behavior. The Association is proceeding on its current path in line with the national vision "Oman 2040," which emphasized in one of its strategic objectives "an environment and systems that stimulate economically contributing and globally competitive sports." This is what we seek to achieve by building effective partnerships and implementing sustainable, quality programs. We are fully aware that cooperation and support from all relevant parties, especially the Ministry of Education in all its sectors, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, partner sports associations, sports media, and the private sector, is the best way to achieve our aspirations and move confidently toward a bright future for school sports. In this regard, we highly appreciate the generous support of HE the Minister, all employees and collaborators in the Ministry’s sectors, and the educational cadres whose visions and suggestions have had a pivotal impact on the Association’s success. We also extend our special thanks to the Association’s strategic partners, most notably the OQ Group, for their continuous support. We also express our deep gratitude to Muscat Stores and Pharmacy (Boucari Sweet) for their continuous support of the Association and its activities.”
Al-Salmiya added: “The Association has established a number of basic pillars to continue its activities and achievements in the coming period, including raising the executive administrative efficiency administratively, financially and technically, creating an integrated and consistent system for school sports, establishing a general framework for discovering, nurturing and marketing sports talents, and raising the efficiency of sports educational cadres by enrolling them in specialized rehabilitation programs and motivating and encouraging them, as well as forming agreements for the technical and logistical aspects of the programs and competitions organized by the Association in cooperation with sports unions, committees and private sector companies, in addition to building an integrated system for communication, media and marketing school sports to serve the association’s goals.”
Al-Salmiya also touched upon in her speech the participation of the Ministry of Education, represented by the Omani School Sports Association, in many championships at the Arab and Gulf levels, in which our students achieved advanced positions and medals. Within the internal framework, the School Sports Association has succeeded since its establishment in organizing various sports competitions and programs during the past academic years, some of which were implemented at the level of the educational governorates and some of which were implemented centrally at the level of the Sultanate of Oman, as well as some of which were mandatory and some of which were optional. These programs and competitions were distributed to include different ages of male and female students from different educational stages.
After that, a visual presentation was held highlighting school sports in the Sultanate, previous achievements, and the new plan. This was followed by Yousef bin Awad Bait Salim, a member of the Board of Directors of the Oman School Sports Association, who gave a presentation in which the Association’s plan and programs were presented, highlighting the new programs, tournaments, projects, and partnerships, as the Association’s competitions and activities amount to more than (20) diverse activities from which all students in the educational stages of both genders, along with male and female teachers, benefit.
Yousef Beit Salim said: "The Association's activities are not limited to the sports aspect alone, but include educational and awareness programs, competitions, tournaments, and festivals, in addition to qualifying courses and workshops for school sports specialists. The Association is implementing two training programs in the first semester of the 2025/2026 academic year: the "Basics of Using Social Media in School Sports" training program, and the "Marketing Management in Sports Institutions" training program.”
Among the new projects the Association intends to implement with a number of partners are the "Chess for Every Student" program in cooperation with the Oman Chess Committee, the community sailing program in cooperation with Oman Sail, the e-Sports Schools League, and the 3X3 Basketball League for boys and girls.
The Association's vision is different in some activities and programs, and is under the slogan "Everyone is a winner", through sports days and festivals implemented by the Association inside and outside schools, namely the unified sports day "A Little Sport", the sports festival for students with disabilities in cooperation with the Directorate-General of Special Education and Continuous Learning, the celebration of Omani Physical Education Day, sports festivals, the Ideal Weight Challenge Project program, and the Young Sports Leaders Program.
In conclusion, HE, the patronage of the ceremony, honored the attendees from the supporting partners of the Association, as well as honoring the media professionals who played a major role in promoting the name of the Association in all previous events.
