The Omani National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, in partnership with the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation and Majan University College, held an introductory meeting on its tasks and competencies at Majan University College. The meeting was held under the patronage of HE Prof. Dr. Rahma bint Ibrahim Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation, and with the participation of a number of chairpersons, representatives, and students at private universities and colleges.
This comes as part of the Omani National Commission's efforts to enhance academic cooperation between international and regional organizations concerned with the education, culture, and science sectors (UNESCO, ICESCO, ALECSO) and higher education institutions in the Sultanate of Oman. The aim is to develop strategic partnerships in the fields of scientific research and innovation, which will contribute to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2030 and the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.
The meeting included a keynote speech delivered by Dr. Mahmoud Al-Abri, Secretary of the Omani National Commission for Education, Culture and Science. He provided an overview of the Omani National Commission, which was established in 1974 by Royal Decree and serves as a link between national institutions and the three organizations. He also introduced these organizations, including their history of membership, the most important programs they currently work with, and the future programs they seek to implement in cooperation with the relevant national institutions.
The meeting also included two sessions. The first focused on school, technical, and higher education for a sustainable world; cultural heritage: identity and sustainability; and natural and social sciences for sustainable development. The second working session focused on artificial intelligence and digital transformation, strategic partnerships with international organizations, youth-led initiatives under the slogan "Think Globally, Act Locally," the Department of Organizational Affairs: A Bridge to Partnership and Empowerment, and grants and awards in international organizations.
