Introductory Meeting on Calibration Framework and Guide for Equivalency of Academic Qualifications in the Sultanate of Oman

The Ministry of Education, represented by the Directorate-General of Private Schools, organized an introductory meeting on the calibration framework and the guide for equivalency of academic qualifications in the Sultanate of Oman. The meeting targeted representatives of private schools implementing the International Baccalaureate Diploma, department employees, and employees of the Measurement and Evaluation Department at the Directorate-General of Education in Muscat Governorate. The meeting took place at Sultan School.

Hind Al Nuamani, Deputy Principal of Sultan School, delivered a speech in which she said: “The team relied in its work on benefiting from the experiences of previous teams in this field, and from the leading international experiences in the field of calibrating the results of international qualifications. The team also carefully reviewed the educational outcomes and the topics taught in some of the most important academic subjects, reviewed and analyzed the international results published by the testing centers, and reviewed the guide for the equivalency of international school qualifications in the Sultanate of Oman. After a lot of research, analysis, and extensive discussion, the team arrived at models simulating real results from the students’ results at the Unified Admission Center. Through them, the committee arrived at this framework, which we all believe elevates and enhances the status of international school qualifications in our beloved country.”

Then, Dr. Idris Al Busaidi, Head of the International Educational Programs Department, Muna Al Sulaimani, Head of the Equivalency and Recognition of Academic Qualifications Department at the Ministry of Education, and Nada Al Kayoumi, Director of the University Admissions Department at the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation, presented the first working paper entitled “Standardization of Academic Qualifications and the Guide to Equivalency of School Qualifications", the paper addressed the choice of educational system, career guidance for students, calibration of qualification results, new developments in equivalency, points requirements, results tables, calibration and equivalency, and new developments in the American High School Diploma.

The meeting aims to inform the educational directorates in the governorates and private schools implementing international educational programs of the latest developments in the International Academic Qualifications Equivalency Guide and its calibration framework document. It also aims to raise awareness among parents about the calibration framework and the Academic Qualifications Equivalency Guide in the Sultanate of Oman, and to answer questions and inquiries regarding choosing the appropriate educational program and the importance of documents in determining the educational path.
