Ministry of Education honors School Students Learning German and French Languages

The Ministry of Education, represented by the Directorate-General of Curriculum Development organized a ceremony to distribute diplomas for the German language (DEUTSCH IN FIT) and the French language (DELF) to students at schools implementing the bilingual teaching project.

The ceremony was held under the patronage of HE Jokha bint Abdullah Al Shukaili, CEO of the Oman Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance of Education Authority, in presence of  HE Dr. Dirk Lücke, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Sultanate of Oman, Luciano Rispoli, Acting Directors of Affairs at the Embassy of the French Republic in the Sultanate of Oman, Dr. Suleiman Al Jamudi, Director-General of the Directorate-General of Curriculum Development, officials from the Ministry’s General Diwan, teachers, students, and their parents. The ceremony was held at the Music Band Theater of the Directorate-General Directorate of Scouts and Guides.

At the ceremony, Azza Al Riyami, Head of Foreign Languages ​​Department, delivered a speech in which she said: “Teaching languages ​​represents one of the fundamental pillars for developing students’ skills and increasing their opportunities in our contemporary world. Therefore, the Ministry of Education has adopted an ambitious plan for teaching foreign languages, primarily French and German, in line with the directions of Oman’s future vision to prepare a global generation of knowledge, who possess the tools for effective communication. This plan has begun with a gradual and deliberate implementation in a number of government schools, in partnership with the French Institute and the Goethe Institute, whose vital role in supporting this implementation and developing educational competencies we value.”

Lujain Al Zadjali, grade 12 students at Hail Al Awamer Girls School for Basic Education in Muscat Governorate, presented  an experience in learning the German language where she touched on the beginning of learning the German language, the reasons for it, its activities, and presentations. This was followed by a theatrical performance entitled “A Trip to Germany” presented by German language students from Al Hassan Bin Hashim School for Post-Basic Education. The performance included the students’ trip to the Federal Republic of Germany, starting from Muscat International Airport, arriving at Berlin Airport, and ending with the currency exchange as the first financial experience. After that, Ali Al Shizawi, a grade 12 student at Sohar School in North Al Batinah Governorate, gave a speech on behalf of the students studying the French language. He spoke about his experience studying the French language at the Kavilam Institute in the French Republic, the activities he practiced, the tourist sites he visited, and his meeting with foreign communities. Then, a French song entitled “You and I” was presented by the French language students from Doha Al Adab School. The ceremony concluded with the patronage of the ceremony honoring the teachers of the German and French languages and distributing certificates to students passing the international test for students studying German (Fit in Deutsch), numbering 41 students, and for students studying French (DELF A1), numbering 63 students.

It is worth noting that beside celebrating students passing the German and French language exams, the ceremony also aims to create an educational forum for those involved in teaching both languages and give students the opportunity to showcase their talents in both subjects through presentations.
