With the participation of students from the Sultanate of Oman, the first Gulf Conference for Secondary School Students on Health Awareness concluded in Kuwait. The three-days conference was held under the slogan "Health Awareness from a Gulf Perspective".

The first Gulf Health Awareness Conference aimed to introduce Gulf health awareness, exchange expertise and developments in the field of health awareness among specialists in the Gulf Cooperation Council Countries and present the roles and methods of health awareness programs followed in each Gulf country, and how to benefit from them. The conference also aimed to increase school health awareness, encourage scientific research, and identify problems and solutions in the field of Gulf health awareness.

Abeer Al-Mashaikhi, a health awareness specialist at the Directorate-General of Education in South Al Batinah Governorate, spoke about the two working papers presented by Omani students at the First Gulf Health Awareness Conference, saying: “Omani students presented two working papers titled: ‘The Dangers of Drug and Substance Addiction’ and ‘Solutions to the Problem of the Dangers of Drug and Substance Addiction’, as well as the efforts of the Ministry of Education and the Royal Oman Police in raising awareness about the dangers of drugs. The conference played an effective role in exchanging knowledge between the Gulf Cooperation Council Countries and learning from their experiences in enhancing health awareness among school students and improving the health services provided to them.”

Regarding their participation in the conference, students Sarah Al Harrasi and Haneen Al Awfi, from Salma Bint Qais Basic Education School in South Al Batinah Governorate, said: “In our working paper, we highlighted the most prominent solutions to address the drug problem and the efforts of the Sultanate of Oman to combat this scourge. Our participation in the conference was an inspiring experience, as we addressed the most important challenges facing humanity and the proposed solutions to address them responsibly, with a focus on raising awareness among school students about various health challenges. The conference was an opportunity to gain new insights and delve deeper into the causes, consequences, and solutions presented by the participating countries.”

Nawaf Al-Zadjali, from Imam Jabir Bin Zaid Basic Education School for Boys (10-12) in Muscat Governorate, spoke about his impressions of the conference, saying: “The conference was interesting and useful. I learned about the most important things that affect human health, such as smoking cigarettes and electronic hookah, as it is one of the most prominent problems prevalent in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries among teenagers. We learned about the extent of its harm, the cost of treatment, and ways to prevent it. I plan to transfer what I learned to my fellow students at school and introduce them to the topics presented at the conference.”
