The Ministry of Education, represented by the Directorate-General of Special Education and Continuous Learning, organized a virtual evening titled "Evening Spotlights on Diagnosis and Talent" for the 2024/2025 academic year. The event targeted fifty employees from the education sector, civil society organizations and individuals interested in the field of talent and diagnosis, as well as parents, and was held via Teams platform.
The evening included a lecture titled "Academic Acceleration: A Gateway to Early Excellence for Gifted Students," delivered by Dr. Fahd bin Sulaiman Al-Fayez, Associate Professor of Giftedness and Creativity at King Saud University in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The lecture defined the term acceleration, its objectives, and the scientific justifications for its application in the educational environment. It also highlighted its types, appropriate indicators for student acceleration, factors to consider when adopting acceleration in schools, general policies to be considered when adopting acceleration in the educational environment, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's experience in implementing it.
The evening aims to highlight the services provided by the Ministry of Education in the Sultanate of Oman in the field of gifted care and diagnosis. It also aims to introduce parents to methods of caring for and developing talent in their children, raise awareness among them and those working in the educational field about its mechanisms and procedures, familiarize them with the criteria used to diagnose people with disabilities and identify gifted students, and highlight areas of cooperation and partnership with community institutions that contribute to supporting the care of gifted students.
