Educational Exhibition to Raise Community Awareness of Autism Spectrum Disorder
The Ministry of Education, represented by the Directorate-General of Special Education and Continuous Learning, celebrated World Autism Awareness Day, which falls on April 2 of each year. The celebration emphasized the importance of raising community awareness of autism spectrum disorder and highlighting the need to support and empower this group, which contributes to improving their quality of life and enabling them to live with dignity and effectiveness within society.
On this occasion, the Directorate organized an educational exhibition at the Ministry's General Diwan, with the participation of a number of public and private schools. The exhibition aimed to introduce the programs and services provided to these students in the Sultanate of Oman, showcase successful models of educational practices, exchange expertise between relevant educational institutions, and enhance community awareness of the importance of comprehensive integration and the achievement of a sustainable national vision in this field.
The opening ceremony of the exhibition was patronized by Dr. Thuraiya Al Rashidi, Director-General of Special Education and Continuous Learning. The exhibition included three main sections: a section displaying educational tools and resources, another for implemented services and projects, and a third section showcasing the talents and experiences of students with autism. The event also included a visual presentation, along with the distribution of brochures and leaflets introducing the educational services provided to this group.
The Sultanate of Oman places great importance on people with disabilities, particularly those with autism spectrum disorder, out of its belief in their right to education, care, and social integration. The Ministry of Education works to promote this approach through specific programs and initiatives that keep pace with global developments in special education and contribute to creating an inclusive educational environment that supports diversity and meets the needs of all students.
