The Ministry of Education celebrated the conclusion of the “Road Friends” program for road safety (VIA) for the academic year 2024/2025, which the Ministry is implementing in (33) schools across all educational directorates in the Sultanate of Oman, in cooperation with the Royal Oman Police and Shell Oman Development Company.

The closing ceremony, held at the Kempinski Hotel Muscat, was patronized by Major General Abdullah bin Hamad Al Harthy, Assistant Inspector General of Police and Customs for Operations, in the presence of HE Prof. Abdullah bin Khamis Ambosaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education for Education, and a number of officials.

The ceremony began with a speech by the Ministry, delivered by Khaled Al-Bassami, Assistant Director at the Office of the Undersecretary of Education, in which he explained that the number of students participating in the program amounted to more than (1000) students, from various educational directorates of the governorates; to spread a noble message that safety is everyone’s responsibility, and that every safe behavior on the road is a life that is preserved, and a future that is built.

In his speech, he said: “The program’s objectives were not limited to transferring knowledge or presenting content, but extended to building convictions, shaping behaviors, and stimulating creativity, by familiarizing students with the dangers of driving on the roads, training them to make informed decisions, and enabling them to produce influential messages that reflect their awareness and maturity. It is fortunate that this conclusion coincides with the Gulf Traffic Week, in which our schools from all educational directorates in the governorates participate with the results of this program.”

Major Issa Al Nabhani, Assistant Director of the Traffic Safety Institutes Department, then delivered a speech in which he emphasized that close cooperation with students and educational institutions plays a pivotal role in supporting the Royal Oman Police's drive to consolidate a community-based traffic safety approach. He pointed out that the partnership represents a fundamental pillar upon which to build in the future, by integrating traffic safety concepts into curricula and strengthening frameworks for cooperation with families and society, ensuring the consolidation of a culture of traffic safety as a conscious daily practice and sustainable societal behavior.

From Shell Oman Development Company, Al Ahnaf Al Zubaidi, Director of Investment and Community Relations, delivered a similar speech, saying: “The national and societal responsibility, the commitment of the participants, and the effective role of the teachers and trainers provide the impetus to continue this noble mission. We have witnessed the dazzling reflection of a safer future through their activities and designs in the traffic safety program.”

The ceremony included a visual presentation that included the activities implemented in the program since its launch, and the extent to which students benefited from it through acquiring traffic culture skills and security and safety behaviors on the road. Students from Umm Ma'bad Al Khazra'iyah School from the North Al Batinah Governorate presented a theatrical performance about security and safety on school buses, and students from Othman bin Maz'un School from the South Al Batinah Governorate presented an operetta that embodied the concept of road safety.

At the end of the ceremony, the patronage of the event honored the students, teachers, and trainers from various supporting bodies and institutions, including the Ministry of Education, the Royal Oman Police, and Shell Oman Development Company.
