The Ministry of Education, represented by the Department of Innovation and Science Olympiad, in cooperation with the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Muscat, organized a training workshop targeting students participating in international innovation and science competitions and exhibitions. The workshop was held at the Winam Garden Hotel in Muscat.
This training Workshop is part of a series of qualifying programs prepared by the Ministry to support talented and innovative Omani students and enhance their active presence in international scientific forums. This is achieved by developing their skills in presenting their scientific innovations effectively and confidently before judging committees. It is also done through enhancing students’ presence and readiness to participate in international events and exhibitions, such as the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), the International Innovation, Invention and Technology Exhibition (ITEX), and the Sheikha Fadia Al Saad Scientific Innovation Competition.
The training workshop addressed several topics that contribute to honing students' skills, including: "Basic Skills for Successful Presentations," presented by Israa Al Ajmi, Head of the Innovation and Technology Transfer Department at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Muscat; "How to Present a Project to a Committee," presented by Dr. Karima Al Balushi, Senior Lecturer in Chemistry; and "Managing Stress and Psychological Challenges," presented by Dr. Abeer Al Kalbani, a lecturer in the Science Department.
On implementing this training Workshop, Zakia Al-Muqimi, Head of the Scientific Innovation Section at the Ministry's Innovation and Scientific Olympiad Department, said: "The Ministry is making strenuous efforts to build a confident generation that possesses the tools for scientific creativity and professional representation of the Sultanate of Oman in international forums. This is achieved by engaging them in training programs that simulate real-life experiences, helping them adapt to the nature of international competitions and overcome challenges with confidence and efficiency. Collaborating with the University of Technology and Applied Sciences has contributed significantly to achieving qualitative outcomes."
On her part, Israa Al Ajmi, Head of the Innovation and Technology Transfer Department at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Muscat, emphasized: "The workshop was designed to meet the aspirations of the participating students and the requirements of international competitions.” She also praised their excellent interaction during the training and emphasized that they possess promising potential and evolving skills that will make them distinguished ambassadors in international innovation arenas.
