The Ministry of Education, represented by the Directorate-General of Curriculum Development, continues its efforts to implement comprehensive updates to the educational curriculum for the 2024/2025 year. The goal is to enhance the quality of education, consolidate national identity, promote religious values, and keep pace with the requirements of sustainable development and future skills, in line with the labor market needs and future requirements.

The Directorate-General of Curriculum Development continues to develop a set of educational curricula for the second semester of the current academic year 2024/2025, with the aim of enhancing the quality of content and developing students’ skills according to the latest educational standards. The Directorate has completed printing and distributing textbooks for the Social Studies subject (grade 6), which includes in-depth studies on the history of Oman and its most prominent historical events, with a focus on natural and human geography aiming at enhancing students’ cultural awareness and developing their analysis and deduction skills.

Arabic Language (grade 8) has undergone a substantial development that includes diverse literary texts, enhancing students' reading, writing, and expression skills and developing their ability to analyze texts and communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Islamic Education (grade 8) aims to instill a deep understanding of Islamic principles among students through the study of the Prophet's biography, jurisprudence, and doctrine, with a focus on the values of tolerance and coexistence, and linking Islamic teachings to daily life, thus contributing to the formation of an enlightened religious awareness among them.

Information Technology (grades 5 and 11) has updated its IT curricula to keep pace with the latest developments in the digital field, with special attention paid to data science, programming, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence technologies, enhancing students' skills in the fields of science and technology, and preparing them for the requirements of the digital age. English Language (grades 5 and 6), Identity and Citizenship (grades 1-4), have been also updated alongside with Environmental Sciences (grade 11) which include multiple skills, including data analysis, practical problem solving, and the application of the scientific method. This makes it a strong preparation for university levels in the fields of environmental management and marine sciences, in addition to its integration with other scientific disciplines, which contributes to qualifying students for further study in environmental science, earth sciences, agriculture, and marine sciences.

The developed curriculum included several essential updates with the aim of improving the quality of education and enhancing students’ skills. The first semester witnessed the launch of the gradual implementation of the developed curriculum (first phase) for grades (1-4). Several updates were implemented with the aim of focusing on students’ basic skills, the most prominent of which are: the classification of academic subjects, which were divided into (basic subjects): Islamic education, Arabic language, English language, Mathematics, and Science, and (accompanied subjects): Identity and Citizenship, Information Technology, Physical education, Visual arts, and Musical arts. Among these updates also: reducing the number of academic subjects, as the academic subjects were reduced from (11) to (10) subjects, with a focus on strengthening basic skills, such as: reading, writing in Arabic and English, and arithmetic, and allocating more learning time for basic subjects, as the number of classes allocated to basic subjects was increased to ensure a deeper understanding and better student achievement in these areas.

The "Identity and Citizenship" course was also introduced, aiming to promote the values of citizenship and national identity among students from an early stage. The educational content of the accompanying courses was also developed, as the curricula of the accompanying courses were updated to focus more on developing students' practical and creative skills. The educational assessment system was also developed, as the assessment methods for the accompanying courses were modified to focus on measuring acquired skills rather than relying on traditional tests.

The Directorate-General of Curriculum Development also continues to support the educational process by issuing supporting documents and materials for new textbooks, by preparing guidance bulletins and interactive e-books that enable teachers to enhance teaching effectiveness, in addition to implementing supporting strategic projects, including: the Story Series Platform for the first grades (1-4), the e-learning system, and the digital repository, to provide a modern and integrated educational environment, ensuring the achievement of levels of support for the educational field and improving the quality of education.

The Directorate also emphasizes that its strategy is based on achieving an integration between knowledge, values, and skills, with the goal of preparing a generation capable of critical and creative thinking, interacting positively with global changes, and instilling national and religious values, while promoting conscious openness to other cultures. These developments are part of a well-thought-out educational vision aimed at providing high-quality education that contributes to building an advanced knowledge-based society and enhancing the Sultanate of Oman's position regionally and internationally, while preparing students to become leaders and pioneers in various scientific and practical fields.
