The Ministry of Education, represented by the Directorate-General of Vocational and Technical Education, continues to implement its plans aimed at enhancing vocational and technical education, in line with labor market requirements and achieving the goals of Oman Vision 2040. As part of the ongoing implementation of this educational path, the current academic year has witnessed a series of development activities and projects targeting business administration, information technology, and engineering and industrial specializations, along with preparations are underway to receive students for the upcoming academic year 2025/2026.

The Directorate has delivered to students in private training institutions all the second semester books in engineering and industrial specializations, which include: engineering maintenance, mechanical manufacturing engineering, occupational health and safety, maintenance of solid structures, lifting and lowering operations, welding, and metal forming. These curricula were prepared under the supervision of the Oman Energy Association (OPAL), and scientific and technical review by experts from the Ministry of Labor and the Ministry of Education. Work is currently underway to prepare and equip the curricula for grade 12 for the first and second semesters to ensure the continued development of this track.

In preparation for the academic year 2025/2026, and the registration of students wishing to join the vocational and technical education track in the offered specializations targeting (150) students in business administration and information technology, and (600) students in engineering and industrial specializations, the Directorate implemented a number of awareness and educational programs in post-basic education schools in the Governorates of Muscat and North Al Batinah, in cooperation between the Center for Career Guidance and Student Counseling, and the relevant departments in the two governorates. These programs included field visits to schools to introduce students and parents to vocational and technical education, and to provide the necessary support and guidance to those wishing to register, in addition to the Directorate’s participation in the exhibition of university specializations and training programs organized by the Directorate-General of Education in North Al Batinah. The Directorate is also preparing to participate in the Muscat Book Fair in its (29) edition, with the aim of spreading awareness about vocational and technical education to all segments of society.

The Directorate conducted technical and evaluation visits to schools implementing vocational and technical education in the fields of business administration and information technology, as well as private training institutions implementing engineering and industrial specializations, to monitor the progress of the educational process and ensure the achievement of the desired objectives of this track. Several meetings were held with partners in the relevant authorities to discuss administrative and logistical aspects, and procedures for contracting with training institutions, in addition to coordination with the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation, to ensure that outputs are aligned with the requirements of higher education and unified admission.

The Sultanate of Oman is moving towards strengthening this educational path, making it a fundamental pillar in qualifying national cadres, and meeting the needs of various economic sectors. Through partnerships with the private sector and academic institutions, this type of education contributes to enhancing employment opportunities and achieving sustainable development, in line with the aspirations of Oman Vision 2040 toward a knowledge- and innovation-based economy.
