How Teachers employ Artificial Intelligence tools in the Educational Process

With the rapid development of technology, artificial intelligence has become an integral part of various aspects of our lives, including the education sector. Today, the role of the teacher is no longer limited to providing knowledge only, but rather requires the use of modern tools to make the educational process more interactive and effective.

In this survey, we explore how teachers are using AI tools to teach their lessons, and what impact these technologies have had on teaching methods and the quality of education. Has AI contributed to improving the learning experience? We seek answers to these questions through the opinions and experiences of teachers in the educational field.

Salha Al-Dayri, an Arabic language teacher at Manbaa Al-Hikma Basic Education School in Dhofar Governorate, believes that artificial intelligence in education is the use of smart systems and technologies, such as machine learning and natural language processing, to improve the educational process by personalizing content and providing personalized support to learners, in addition to providing accurate analyses of academic performance as it is a tool that enhances the role of the teacher. For example, artificial intelligence can provide instant assessments and personalized feedback, which helps teachers improve teaching strategies and provide additional support to students who need it. It also contributes to designing interactive and diverse educational resources that stimulate creativity and make learning a more effective and enjoyable experience.

She pointed out on how to develop the use of artificial intelligence to be more effective in the educational process; that is by training teachers on the use of artificial intelligence to ensure the application and effective integration of these tools in teaching, as intensive training programs must be provided for teachers on how to use them, as well as developing artificial intelligence systems compatible with the local culture: as the tools must adapt to the needs of the educational environment of each community, in terms of language, content and values, and encouraging research and development, by supporting research projects that explore the potential of artificial intelligence in education, and developing new models that enhance effective learning.

Khalid Al Saadi, a biology teacher at Sultan Qaboos Primary School in South Al Sharqiyah Governorate, spoke about the beginning of his learning to use artificial intelligence tools, saying: “I faced some challenges, such as understanding how smart models work, ensuring the accuracy of results, and choosing the appropriate tools for the field of education, but I overcame these difficulties through continuous experimentation. I tried different artificial intelligence tools, interactive content generators, augmented reality applications, and virtual reality applications, as well as following educational resources, training courses, and reading articles and research that explain how to benefit from artificial intelligence in education.”

Speaking about the future of artificial intelligence in education in the coming years, he said: “In the coming years, artificial intelligence will bring about a radical transformation in education and will play a major role in improving the learning experience. Artificial intelligence tools will be able to design curricula tailored to each student based on their level of understanding and learning style, as well as to monitor student development in real time, which will help teachers intervene in a timely manner to address any difficulties.”

Aisha Al-Zadjali, an IT teacher at Al-Hikma Primary School in North Al Batinah Governorate, said about her beginnings in using artificial intelligence tools, which were (3) years ago: “Artificial intelligence tools represent a revolution in the technological development, as they provide various facilities to the user in all fields, the most important of which is the field of teaching, as no lesson is devoid of artificial intelligence tools. It also helps teachers in presenting their lessons and conveying information in an easy and convenient way that suits the students’ tendencies and interests.”

She stressed the importance of using AI tools in teaching, which makes it easier for students to understand and comprehend lessons, and helps them in the areas of rapid search, and generating images and information. She added: “Artificial intelligence has a clear future in the field of education by using it in preparing curricula for different stages, creating educational paths that enhance artificial intelligence, and using it in the labor market and production.”

Khalid Al Siyabi, an Arabic language teacher at Suhail bin Amro Al Amri School in Muscat Governorate, defined artificial intelligence in education by saying: “It is an application of artificial intelligence technologies with the aim of improving the quality of learning and personalizing educational experiences. This includes analyzing student performance data to identify strengths and weaknesses, providing immediate assessments that help teachers adjust teaching strategies to meet the needs of each student, improving classroom management, providing interactive educational content, and simulating innovative educational experiences which enhance interaction and integration, and contribute to the comprehensive development of the educational process.”

He touched on how to develop the use of artificial intelligence in the educational process, saying: “The use of artificial intelligence in the educational process can be developed effectively by using data-driven technologies to customize the learning experience according to the needs of each student, continuously training teachers on how to integrate artificial intelligence tools into educational practices, and updating algorithms in more advanced ways to ensure greater effectiveness.”

Samia Al Muqbali, an IT teacher at Hafsa Bint Sirin Basic Education School in Al Buraimi Governorate, pointed out the importance of having artificial intelligence tools in education by customizing content for each student based on their needs and level of understanding, and providing quick and accurate assessments which allows the teacher to continuously monitor students’ progress, organize lessons, and choose appropriate educational resources easily.

She stressed the importance of training teachers in the field of artificial intelligence, organizing workshops and specialized courses in the use of artificial intelligence tools, encouraging teachers to use the tools in classrooms, providing continuous support through practical experiences, and building communities among teachers to exchange experiences and learn from each other about how to use artificial intelligence.

Hamad Al-Hashami, an English teacher at Abdullah bin Rawaha Primary School in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, pointed to his efforts to develop the use of artificial intelligence in education by creating educational content tailored to each student, and using artificial intelligence tools to analyze students’ levels and evaluate them according to treatment and enrichment plans. He also said: “I plan to use artificial intelligence to create educational videos, simplified articles, and lesson summaries which makes learning more attractive, especially for the current generation that needs such lessons to attract attention and increase motivation.”

Al-Hashami believes that using artificial intelligence tools to understand students is of great importance in developing the educational process, improving the quality of learning, and enabling the teacher to identify the difficulties facing students early on, which facilitates providing the necessary support and guidance before the problem worsens. It also contributes to creating an educational environment that relies on data and innovation, which helps improve student comprehension and direct the educational process more effectively and accurately.
