The Directorate-General of Education in Muscat Governorate, represented by the Security Department, in cooperation with the Ministry’s Security Office, organized a security and safety forum for directors and supervisors of security and safety in the schools of the Wilayat of Seeb, under the patronage of Colonel Suleiman bin Said Al Jabri, Assistant Commander of Muscat Governorate Police, and in the presence of Ali Al Shukaili, Assistant Director-General of the Directorate for Administrative and Financial Affairs; to enhance school workers to deal effectively and efficiently with emergency situations.
On organizing this forum, Saif Al Hadi, Head of the Security Department at the Directorate, said: “School security and safety are among the most important areas that need development and spreading awareness among the various segments of the educational field in order to ensure the continued safety of those who visit school buildings and those present in them.” He stressed the importance of intensifying campaigns throughout the school year, which would enhance awareness among members of society.
The forum included a number of working papers, where Ali Al-Naamani from the Ministry’s Security Office presented a paper entitled: “Towards a Safe and Stimulating Environment for Education”, in which he addressed a number of topics, including: enhancing collective responsibility to maintain a safe environment in schools, activating coordination between the relevant parties, enhancing reassurance through awareness and psychological support, and compliance with the regulations, laws and guidelines regulating security and safety. Captain Yasser Al-Amri, Head of the Investigations and Criminal Investigations Department, presented a paper entitled: Security and Safety in Schools. Omar Al-Hanai, Head of the Psychological Counseling Department at Muscat Educational Directorate, discussed in his paper entitled “The Sense of Psychological Security in the School Environment” the sections, the importance of psychological security in the school environment, its benefits, and practical self-applications for the school principal.
The forum concluded with a working paper presented by Undersecretary Abdul Aziz Al Balushi from the Civil Defense and Ambulance Authority entitled: “Precautionary Measures for Fire Risks in Educational Institutions,” in which he reviewed Article 76/91 of the Civil Defense Law, the concept of precautionary measures, the ignition triangle and its element, methods of heat transfer, causes of fires in schools, and adherence to public safety measures.
The forum included a theatrical performance by students of Hafs Bin Rashid Primary School, and an honoring of a number of outstanding school guards in the schools of the Wilayat of Seeb for their important role in maintaining the security and safety of students, teachers, and school property, as they constitute the first line of defense against any security risks in the school environment.
The Security Department at Muscat Educational Directorate aims through this forum to raise the security awareness of the directors and supervisors of the schools sector in the Wilayat of Seeb, to learn how to deal with various security risks in different school situations, to demonstrate the efforts of the Ministry, the Royal Oman Police and the Civil Defense in the field of security and safety in school buildings, and to acquire the steps to obtain a civil protection permit for school buildings.
