The Seminar to prepare a guide to promote sustainable development concepts in the school environment, organized by the Ministry of Education, represented by the Omani National Commission for Education, Culture and Science and the Specialized Institute for Professional Training for Teachers, in cooperation with the UNESCO Regional Office for the Gulf States and Yemen in Doha, concluded.

The four-day seminar targeted a number of educators, specialists, and representatives of stakeholders in the fields of education and sustainable development. The seminar aimed at developing an integrated practical framework that integrates sustainability concepts within Omani schools in line with Oman Vision 2040 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), developing modern educational strategies and practices that enhance the role of schools as centers of sustainability, and encouraging transformative learning that focuses on critical thinking, problem solving, and environmental leadership.

The guide will include guidelines for integrating sustainability into curricula, promoting sustainable behaviors in the school environment, and enhancing partnership with the local community, in addition to activating extracurricular activities, such as recycling projects, rationalizing energy consumption, and student environmental initiatives. The focus will be on the role of media and modern technology, including artificial intelligence and social media, in spreading and promoting a culture of sustainability among students and the school community.
