The Ministry of Education, represented by the Directorate-General of Special Education and Continuous Learning, celebrated World Braille Day, which falls on January 4 of each year, with the aim of highlighting the importance of Braille as a basic means of ensuring the participation of people with visual disabilities in education and public life.

The Ministry, in partnership with Al Noor Association for the Blind, organized a special exhibition on this occasion. Shanoona Al Habsi, UNICEF Representative and Assistant Director-General of the Directorate-General for Special Education and Continuous Learning, patronized the opening ceremony of the exhibition, which included a number of corners from Al Noor Association for the Blind and Omar bin Al Khattab Institute for the Blind, in the presence of a number of Ministry employees and those interested in the field of visual impairment.

Participants in the exhibition showcased the historical development of Braille and its importance in the lives of the blind, in addition to displaying educational tools and modern technologies that facilitate learning using Braille and showing a number of videos about Braille. The exhibition also included an interactive corner that allows visitors to experience writing and reading Braille using the designated tools, in addition to displaying student projects and innovations that highlight the creativity of students with visual disabilities.

The Ministry of Education pays great attention to supporting Braille as a vital means of teaching blind students, and ensuring their active participation in society by providing curricula in Braille, training specialized teachers, providing modern technologies in teaching blind students, and implementing a set of initiatives and programs that promote the use of Braille and contribute to developing the educational process for students with visual disabilities, all in order to expand the scope of using Braille, enhance the integration of technology in the education of the blind, in addition to developing partnerships with local and international institutions to promote the rights of persons with disabilities in education.

Through celebrating World Braille Day and holding this exhibition for this day, the Ministry of Education aims to raise awareness in the community about the importance of Braille for the blind, especially in the field of integrating the blind into society, and to display educational devices and means in the field of teaching and learning Braille, including the production of science book drawings in Braille for the blind using a thermal transducer, and to display the latest developments in the field of teaching and learning Braille, and to clearly explain pictures and drawings for students with visual disabilities.
