As part of the Ministry of Education’s efforts to enhance digital transformation and develop the education infrastructure, the Ministry of Education signed three cooperation agreements with telecommunications companies (OmanTel, Awasr, Ooredoo) to develop and upgrade internet and telephone services in government schools.
The agreement was signed on behalf of the Ministry by Abdullah bin Khalifa Al Saadi, Director-General of the Directorate-General of Financial Affairs, on behalf of HE the Undersecretary of the Ministry for Administrative and Financial Affairs, and on behalf of Awasr by Eng. Talal bin Khalfan Al Jabri, Vice Chief of Sales at the company, on behalf of OmanTel by Salim Abdul Latif, Executive Vice Chief of Procurement, and on behalf of Ooredoo by Abdulaziz bin Saud Al Abri, Director General of Commercial Business.
These agreements stipulate increasing the internet speed in schools by ten times, from (100) megabits per second to (1) gigabit per second, providing the necessary telephone services in schools, upgrading (550) schools with fiber technology, (550) schools with (5G) technology, and (50) schools with other technologies to be implemented in stages. The agreement also stipulated free browsing of educational platforms during distance learning period due to weather conditions or emergency circumstances for all users; all with the aim of supporting the educational process, facilitating access to digital resources, enhancing the quality of education, and providing an advanced educational environment that is in line with the requirements of the digital age.
