The Ministry of Education, represented by the Directorate-General of Curriculum Development, implemented the introductory program for the Chinese language subject, which targeted “twenty” directors and vocational guidance specialists at schools that will implement the Chinese language in the Governorates of “Muscat and Al Dakhiliyah.” The program was held at the Khasab Hall at the Ministry’s General Diwan.
The program began with a speech delivered by Salem Al Kharousi, Director of the Humanities Curricula Department, in which he provided an introduction to the Chinese language, the date of its implementation, the mechanism for coordinating its teaching, the importance of studying it, its objectives, the schools chosen to implement it, the existing cooperation plan between the Sultanate of Oman and the People’s Republic of China, and the memorandum of understanding currently being worked on.
This was followed by a visual presentation entitled: “Teaching the Chinese Language, a Window to the Future in the Schools of the Sultanate of Oman” presented by Omar Al Subhi, an educational researcher in the Foreign Languages Department of the Humanities Curricula Department. The presentation included an overview of the Chinese language, and the schools in which it will be applied optionally starting from the next academic year 2025/2026, namely Sayyid Sultan bin Ahmed School (11-12) for boys, Juwairiya bint Abi Sufyan School (9-12) for girls in the Wilayat of Al Amerat, Hay Al Turath School (9-12) for boys, and Al Shatha bint Jaber School for Basic Education (9-12) for girls in the Wilayat of Nizwa.
Then, Dr. Ishaq Al-Azri, a lecturer at the College of Arts and Humanities at Sultan Qaboos University, gave a presentation in which he touched on teaching the Chinese language, its application at Sultan Qaboos University, the difficulties in teaching it, and the grants provided by the People’s Republic of China to teach the Chinese language in the Sultanate of Oman.
