Scientific Performances and Plays at the Fifth Day of Oman Science Festival 2024

The fifth day of Oman Science Festival 2024 witnessed a large turnout of visitors from different segments of society and a remarkable presence of families and those interested in various scientific fields. The program of Ibn Omaira Theatre on its fifth day included many shows, plays and interactive scientific lectures. In the morning, the Earth of Science Company presented a scientific show entitled: “Fun Sciences” that combined fun and benefit, during which scientific concepts were presented in an interactive manner, and with innovative techniques that aimed to simplify science through live scientific experiments and direct interaction with the audience.

Visitors interacted with the “Genius Challenge Competitions” segment presented by “Rawak Innovation Company”. Attendees had the opportunity to test their abilities in solving scientific and intellectual puzzles. The competitions included a variety of challenges to stimulate critical thinking and enhance mental skills, including mathematical questions, logical puzzles, and short scientific experiments.

The Directorate-General of Education in Muscat Governorate presented a play about "Nanotechnology" to introduce the audience to the concepts of nanotechnology in a simplified and attractive way, and the modern technologies that allow dealing with materials at the atomic and molecular level, in a theatrical style that simplifies difficult scientific concepts and encourages scientific thinking and innovation. The play aim at introducing young people to the importance of nanotechnology and its great impact on the future and discovering this technology and its applications in our daily lives.

The Oman Energy Society organized a practical workshop entitled “Health and Safety in the School Environment”, which focused on how to apply best practices in maintaining a safe and healthy school environment, strategies for dealing with potential risks in schools, enhancing environmental awareness, and providing a healthy educational environment that contributes to improving students’ performance and well-being.

Knowledge Grid Academy gave a scientific presentation using virtual reality (VR) technology entitled: “Waste Hierarchy and Types of Environmental Pollution”, through an interactive experience that displays information in a realistic way; to understand the impact of waste on the environment and the different types of pollution. The presentation also addressed explaining the hierarchy of waste management, starting from reducing the quantities produced and ending with recycling and safe disposal, in addition to the types of environmental pollution and their impact on public health.

“Nutty Sciences” company presented a scientific show titled: “Fun Sciences” which included a set of experimental activities on complex scientific concepts. The show also included experiments in fields of chemistry, physics, and biology, and explained some scientific phenomena directly, which enhances understanding of science and its impact on our daily lives.

Visitors watched the interactive presentation: “Applications of Cybersecurity Technologies in Everyday Life” presented by the Cyber ​​Defense Center, which reviewed the latest methods and technologies used to secure data and protect users from cyber risks, and the importance of cyber security in the lives of the public. It highlighted the cyber risks that individuals may be exposed to in their electronic transactions, such as: data theft, digital fraud, and cyberattacks, while providing practical advice on how to protect against them, and the role of modern technologies, such as: encryption, multi-factor identity authentication, and artificial intelligence in enhancing cyber security and protecting personal devices from the increasing threats in the world of the Internet.

Michael Hoch from the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) spoke about the organization’s participation in the fourth edition of the Oman Science Festival, saying: “We participated in this edition of the festival to inspire the next generation of Omani children; to be fascinated by the world of science and scientific movement, and to learn about the tools needed to prepare for the future of the twenty-first century. I was impressed by the distinguished organization of the Ministry of Education for the fourth edition of the Oman Science Festival, and I witnessed the enthusiasm of the children visiting the festival as we hosted many of them in our corner.”

Vodafone also participated in the fourth edition of the Oman Science Festival, through a corner that takes students on a journey into the world of communications from ancient times to the future. Osama bin Abdullah Al Saifi, the company’s brand manager, said: “We revealed to the festival’s audience the tremendous development in the world of communications starting with carrier pigeons, then communication with voices via cups, to the stage of (the beginning of “Hello”), and the invention of phones that changed the communications landscape in the world. At the end of the journey, the visitor reaches the “Welcome to the Future” corner.”

The Smart Future corner howcases more than 13 scientific workshops presented by a number of universities, colleges, and national institutions concerned with the fields of automation, artificial intelligence, Internet of Things sensors, Scratch program, and programming languages, in addition to hologram technology and its use in education, the manufacture of 3D glasses, virtual laboratories, educational robots, and virtual reality technology.

The Sustainable Foods corner targets the visitors of the festival with more than 12 activities that suits all age groups and vary between training workshops, practical experiments, and live performances such as choosing health food, combining a complete meal, and nutrition elements’ role in maintaining health. Visitors can also experience the sensory evaluation of fish products, learn about the stages of tissue culture and how trees are produced in the laboratory, and taste some healthy national products.

At the Military Technologies corner, visitors explore discovers some modern scientific technologies and applications that reflect the developments in the military field, both ancient and modern. The activities of this corner reach more than (90) scientific activities, workshops, innovations and various devices. This corner represents several entities, namely: the Royal Army of Oman, the Royal Air Force of Oman, the Royal Navy of Oman, the Royal Guard of Oman, the Military Technical College, and the Royal Oman Police.
