Activities of Oman Science Festival continue for the third day among a vast audience from school students, parents, educational institutions, specialists, and academics. Aiming at raising scientific awareness and enhancing interests in science and technology, Oman Science Festival combines various activities, interactive lectures and workshops, as well as scientific fun competitions.
Among the Oman Science Festival is the Mobile Planetarium, organized by Petroleum Development Oman. It takes visitors on a trip to discover the universe, offering chances to know Celestial Object and the solar system. The visual reality will have the crowd see stars, comets, and galaxies, which aims on reinforcing the importance of astronomy for both adults and children.
Cybernetics got multiple activities organized by Advanced Cyber Security Academy, Oman National CERT, University of Technology and Applied Sciences, Global College of Engineering and Technology, Insight Information Security, Ministry of Education, represented by Department of Electronic Information Security, Knowledge Masterpiece International private School, and Tatweer Cyber Security. The activities aim on spreading cyber awareness in the educational and innovation field, having a blend of education and entertainment allows people to understand and manage digital risks.
Sustainable Environment organized by Environment Authority, the Turtle Commando Program shows visitors behaviors of animals in their habitats and how to protect endangered species and the consequence of pollution for both animals and humans.
Carbon Neutrality section is organized by Al-Khaboura Vocational College, Climate Fresk Oman, Basmatna gheer, Sultan Qaboos University Oil and Gas Research Center, Global College of Engendering and Technology, Sultan Qaboos University center of Environmental Studies and Research, Million Plastic Caps, University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Muscat and Al-Rustaq. The activities inform people the importance to reach sustainable living by reducing carbon emissions, recycling waste materials, air pollution measurement, and protecting solar cells.
The Ibn Omaira Theatre’s program included a number of activities among which a scientific competition “Knowledge Fields” carried out by the Social Responsibility department at Occidental Oman. The Directorate-General for Medical Supply at the Ministry of Health gave interactive presentations titled “Medical Interventions: Medication Journey in the Body”, whereas the National Center for Pediatrics performed a play on diabetic children’s challenges to raise awareness among the festival’s visitors
The Ministry of Education honored the excelled students in the Knowledge Development Program 2023/2024, under the patronage of HE Dr. Saif bin Abdullah Al Haddabi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation, at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Center.
The honoring ceremony began with the Ministry of Education’s speech delivered by Dr. Maya Al Azri, Advisor to the Minister for Scientific Innovation and Acting Director of Scientific Innovation and Olympiad Department. She stated: “The Ministry of Education seeks to greatly enhance the innovation system in school education in line with the national visions that focus primarily on creating human resources with competitive capabilities and contributing to driving the wheel of economic development.”
She added: “The Ministry’s programs have focused on several topics, the most important of which are: spreading awareness and promoting a culture of innovation in schools, training and capacity building, and providing the appropriate environment to support and develop innovative ideas. The Ministry has also succeeded in creating an effective partnership with various governmental and private sectors concerned with scientific aspects and developing innovative capabilities. The national competitions in their various stages included a number of programs that aimed to develop students' capabilities in scientific research methodology, developing ideas, initial modeling and programming, in addition to training camps that provided qualitative training in the theoretical and practical aspects of various scientific subjects. In addition, the Ministry spares no effort in promoting scientific trends through many qualitative programs, such as the STEM OMAN program and developing science and innovation centers in all educational directorates in partnership with the private sector.”
She concluded her speech by saying: “National scientific events have contributed to drawing attention in a remarkable way to various fields of science and attracting those interested in them to participate in these scientific events. Among the most prominent of these events is the organization of the Oman Science Festival, which is the most prominent scientific event at the national level, as it is held every two years, and various governmental, private and civil institutions participate in presenting its activities. The Ministry also organizes the National Week for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics annually, which is held in various governorates, and this year it was titled "Flourishing Wealth: Green Economy.”
Student Fay Al Mahroqi delivered honored students’ speech in which she said: “We are proud to be standing here today after continuous efforts and endless support from the Ministry of Education to provide us with appropriate environment for excellence and creativity. Having this honoring ceremony amidst Oman Science Festival is step through which the Ministry seeks to develop students’ skills and knowledge, and to provide them with modern technologies in preparation for the future.”
