Oman Science Festival launched with the title “Sustainable Resources” at Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre, under the patronage of HE Dr. Hilal bin Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health, in the presence of HE Dr. Madiha bint Ahmed Al Shaibaniyah, Minister of Education, HE Laila bint Ahmed Al Najjar, Minister of of Social Development, and HE Dr. Moussa bin Mohammad Al-Maqrif, Minister of education in Libya.

Attended the opening, Their Excellencies Ambassadors, Undersecretaries of Ministries, Heads of Government Agencies, several commanders of the Sultan Armed Forces, leaders of security agencies, CEOs of companies, chancellors of universities, and directors general.

Oman Science Festival patronage kicked off with the patronage touring around the pillars of the festival that include over 141 institutions, showcasing their innovations in many different fields, as well as the participation of 5 international institutes which are: Hungarian SKILLDICT organization, The Museum of Natural Sciences of Belgium, The European Organization for Nuclear Research ‘CERN’, Malaysian National Gifted Centre, and Mishkat Interactive Exhibition in Saudi Arabia.

Oman Science Festival 2024 consists on 520 diverse activities that vary from scientific interactive workshops to scientific plays, competitions, and scientific discoveries.

The festival includes 24 main pillars that include: Biodiversity, Smart Future, Health and Life, Wings to Space, Smart Cities, Cybernetics, Little Buds, Natural Resources, Sustainable food, Vibrant Energies, and Flourishing Science. These pillars focus on environmental awareness and sustainable future to enable students realize the importance of reserving environment, natural resources, and instill in them values of sustainability which contribute in achieving sustainable development and hence encourage critical thinking and innovation in facing environmental challenges.

Visitors to the Biodiversity pillar discover the diverse Omani environment through information, interactive experiments, workshops, and educational games, as well as the diverse animals, and native plants. It aims to spread awareness on how to care for biodiversity and reserve it.

Military Technologies pillar displays all the advanced technologies and applications, showing off their improvement compared to older techniques, with over 90 workshops, innovations, and multiple equipment’s used by Oman’s law enforcement.

The Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation pillar includes 16 inspiring success stories from the outputs of the scientific research and innovation projects. The pillar showcases two of these stories each day of the festival’s days, in addition to scientific innovations in fourth industrial revolution and Virtual Reality.

On the stage of Ibn Omaira Theatre, the Mishkat interactive exhibition participates with scientific performances (Fun Sciences) that focus on energy science, forms, and sustainable resources through showcasing a spaceship that needs different energy resources.

HE Dr. Musa Al-Maqrif, Minister of Education of the Libyan Arab Republic, who is currently visiting the Sultanate, expressed his joy to be attending the opening ceremony of the Oman Science Festival 2024. HE praised the organization he saw, the interaction of students and various participants in the festival’s corners, and the diversity of the festival’s activities’ topics such as: the environmental aspect, cybersecurity, and smart cities. He added that this festival is an opportunity to exchange ideas between students and academic experts and urged students to explore the wonders of science and develop their knowledge and skills, which contributes to preparing a generation capable of facing future challenges. He stressed the importance of such events in promoting scientific culture among young people, and it is an ideal platform to encourage innovation and creativity. His Excellency also thanked the Ministry of Education and all the festival’s organizing bodies.
