07/10/2024

The Ministry of Education, represented by the Innovation and Scientific Olympiad Department, implemented a five-day training camp for students who qualified for the Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry Olympiads at the Sultanate level, in preparation for participating in the Gulf Scientific Olympiad competition, which will be held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from October 11-15, organized, and supervised by the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States.

During the camp days, the participating students acquired a number of skills and information, as they were trained on how to solve Olympiad questions in various topics. The field of mathematics included training in algebra, number theory, geometry, and combinations, while in the field of physics, the training included the topics of mechanics, thermodynamics, molecular physics, vibrations and waves, electric charge, current and magnetic field. In chemistry, the training topics included organic and inorganic chemistry, analytical chemistry, and physical chemistry.

The Gulf Olympiad competition is a periodic competition for students of the member states of the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States. It seeks to create the appropriate environment to raise scientific competition among students of the member states in various fields of the competition, and to contribute to enriching curricula and developing education. It aims to enhance areas of communication between students and discover their creativity in mathematics, physics, and chemistry, and to enhance their self confidence and capabilities, talents, and scientific creativity they possess, and thus contribute to developing curricula in the member states.

It is worth noting that the mathematics test is conducted in one day, for four and a half hours. The first half hour the test is allocated to students’ written inquiries and the test consists of four questions. The physics test consists of two parts: the first part is conducted on the first day and is a five-hour theoretical test consisting of three in-depth questions covering important physics topics. On the second day, the practical test is conducted for five hours and consists of a question about the optimal use of technical devices and advanced tools connected to the computer in various physical measurements and reaching highly accurate results. The chemistry test also consists of two parts for two days, similar to the physics test.
