The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, represented by the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, with the participation of representatives from the Royal Oman Police, the Public Prosecution, and the Ministries of Health and Social Development, organized a workshop on indicators and forms of human trafficking, at the Diplomatic Club in the Ministries District in Al Khuwair.
The training workshop targeted a number of social and psychological specialists, school health nurses, and specialists in the fields of education and awareness; to familiarize them with the work of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking and educate them on the nature of human trafficking, community prevention methods, and methods of protection.
The training session began with a speech byShanoona Al Habsi, Representative of the Sultanate of Oman in the Executive Council of UNICEF in the United Nations and the Assistant Director-General for Special Education at the Ministry of Education, in which she referred to the efforts made by the Ministry of Education in the field of combating human trafficking through the implementation of training programs and awareness campaigns for specialists and workers in the field of social and psychological work in various schools of the educational directorates in the governorates.
The workshop included the presentation of a number of working papers that reviewed topics related to human trafficking. Ayman Al Balushi, an international relations specialist at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, presented a working paper in which he reviewed the competencies and tasks of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking and the roles played by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in this regard. The second paper was titled “Dealing with Vulnerable Groups in Society and Victims of Human Trafficking” and presented by Lieutenant Turki Al Ghaithi from the Royal Oman Police. He introduced the participants to the crime of human trafficking and reviewed a study of general indicators to identify victims of human trafficking, methods of dealing with these groups, as well as the role of the Royal Oman Police in combating this crime.
The third paper addressed “Indicators of Human Trafficking Crime” presented by Ahmed Al-Hanai, Chief Public Prosecutor. He presented the definition ofhuman trafficking grime according to the Palermo Protocol on Combating Trafficking of Personal, especially women and children, supplementing the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime. He also presented the elements of the crime, elements of criminalization, and the indicators of crime occurrence, and provided examples from the practical reality that the Public Prosecution dealt with. The fourth paper, presented by Qassim Al-Jahdhami from the Ministry of Health, discussed the dangers of human organ trafficking.
