Within the cooperation between the Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Ministry of Education, and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Muscat, a delegation of experts from the UNICEF Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa visited Al Amal School for the Deaf. The visit aims atlearning about the school's efforts, initiatives, and projects it has implemented in the field of energy, environment, recycling, and green schools. The visit comes within the action plan of the project “Impact of Climate Change on Children and Education”, which is currently being implemented in cooperation with partner agencies in the country.
Accompanying the delegation is Shanoona Al Habsi, Representative of the Sultanate of Oman to the Executive Board of UNICEF, Assistant Director-General for Special Education at the Directorate-General of Special Education and Continuous Learning at the Ministry of Education, and Mohammed Al Harbi, Headmaster of Al Amal School for the Deaf, in the presence of a number of representatives of the Oman Environment Society. The visiting delegation toured a number of corners in the school, such as the children’s garden, the drawing and coloring area, the environmental library, the science corner, the speech and communication corner, and the school garden. The delegation also toured a number of student projects in the Green Schools Project, such as the gray water project (Jasco).
The visiting delegation from UNICEF praised the initiatives and projects of Al Amal School for the Deaf, which certainly have a strategic and sustainable impact on the aspects of climate change and its impact on children. They also praised the efforts made by the Ministry of Education in these aspects.
