Launching the First Karwa School Bus in Duqm

The Ministry of Education, in cooparation with Karwa Company, celebrated the launching of Karwa School Buses under the patronage of HE Majid bin Said Al Bahri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education for Administrative and Financial Affairs, in presence of HE Badr bin Salim Al Maamri, Secretary-General of the Tender Board, and a number of officials at the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Finance, Development Bank, and Karwa Motor Company. 

The cooperation between the Ministry of Education and Karwa Motor Company came in compliance with the high directives that stipulated focusing on qualitative projects that aim to provide added value to the national economy, by creating investment opportunities for small and medium enterprises through enhancing and encouraging local content for Omani industries. From this standpoint, the Ministry of Education strengthened Karwa Motor Company by signing an agreement to provide school buses according to the number required by the ministry’s requirements, for a period of five years. 

The process of manufacturing these school buses by the Karwa Motor Company goes through several stages, namely: Design, implementation, and inspection. Thr process begins with the design of the school bus, where the technical specifications, dimensions, and required equipment are determined, then selecting the appropriate materials for manufacturing the body, such as steel, aluminum, and plastic, in addition to the interior materials such as seats and floors. Then comes the stage of manufacturing the external body of the bus using techniques such as welding and cutting, and assembling the various parts such as the engine, suspension system, wheels, brake system, seat installation, air conditioning system, lighting, and safety systems such as cameras and alarms. After these buses pass the driving, brake, and safety tests, the final finishes are carried out such as: paint, logos, and then cleaning the bus 

Khamis Al Hadidi, Director-General of the Directorate-General of Projects and Servises, said: “As the Ministry of Education continues to update the school transportation, and work to replace old transportation with new ones, and in light of the agreement signed between the Ministry of Education, Karwa Motors Company, and the Oman Development Bank to replace (5000) buses over (5) years at a rate of (1000) buses annually. The first of these buses was launched at Karwa Motors Company in Duqm in Al Wusta Governorate, and it is expected that a number of these buses will begin to be supplied in October. These buses will bring about a qualitative shift in school transportation services and create a safe and comfortable environment for our students.” He emphasized in his speech the importance of providing safe and comfortable school transportation for students, which contributes to improving the educational experience and its role in enhancing road safety. This is the first step and the beginning of further improvements in the school transportation infrastructure in the future. 

Eng. Issa Al Rashdi, Director of School Transportation Departement, said: “These school buses are equipped with the latest monitoring technologies, sensors, automatic fire extinguishing systems, and guidelines, which is an approach to development, improving the school transportation process, finding the necessary solutions, and addressing the challenges that affect the educational process.”

It is worth noring that Karwa School Buses are charecterised with modern design and utilities includeing developed safety systems, and comfertable seets. It is also equipped with modern technologies that allow real-time bus tracking, making it easier for parents to follow their children’s path.
