Training Program on Required Competencies to Adapt Curriculum for Hearing Impairment

The Ministry of Education, represented by the directorate-General of Special Education and Continuous Learning, implemented a training program titled “Required Competencies to Train Specialists to Adapt Curricula for Hearing Impairment.” The five-days training program targets a number of thirty of educational specialists, curricula specialists, teachers at Al Amal School for the Deaf, and teachers of Hearing Integration Program. The training program is impelemted at Radisson Hotel Muscat Panorama.

Presenting the training program is Dr. Majid Abdul-Rahman Al Salim, Pgelosophy Professor at Saod University in the Kingdom od Saudi Arabia. The trainging includes foundations and mechanisms for implementing curriculum adaptation, standards of building successful interventions for curriculum adaptation, study plans, and designing a supportive educational environment for students with different abilities and needs. The program also includes applications of comprehensive design for learning in the educational environment, levels of adaptation and harmonization in the educational environment, as well as educational strategies supporting curriculum adaptation by creating educational content and academic stage. It also covers basic components for students to access the general education curriculum, adaptation of assessment and evaluation tools, use of assistive technology in curriculum adaptation, models of adaptations and modifications based on evidence and proof, in addition to group and individual activities, practical applications on study units, and technical activities.

The program aims to enable participants to master the selection of appropriate adaptation levels according to the nature and needs of each learner in the classroom, and to provide them with the necessary techniques to know the mechanism of implementation for adapting the curriculum at the “partial, comprehensive, individual, and group” levels, and to employ assistive technologies to support the process of adapting the curriculum. It also seeks to achieve the necessary competencies in the adaptation process according to the curriculum and the academic stage. The program also aims to train participants on an actual study unit, and to provide comprehensive adaptation that includes (teaching strategies, the mechanism for presenting content, and evaluation), and to present the best international practices in adapting curricula.
