The Ministry of Education implemented the training program for participants in the “Road Friends Program (VIA)” project, in cooperation with the Royal Oman Police and with the support of Oman Shell Development Company. The three-days training program was held at Hormuz Grand Hotel.
The opening was sponsored by HE Prof. Dr. Abdullah bin Khamis Ambosaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education, in the presence of Brigadier Engineer Ali Al Falahi, Director-General of Traffic at the Royal Oman Police, and Al Ahnaf Al Zubaidi, Director of Social Investment and Community Relations at Oman Shell Development Company.
A number of (45) teachers and supervisors from all educational directorates in the governorates of the Sultanate of Oman are participating in the program, with the aim of providing them with skills and knowledge about safe behaviors related to aspects of road safety and the mechanism for implementing the program in schools.
HE the patronage of the occasion delivered a speech in which he thanked the team responsible for implementing the program from the Ministry of Education, the Royal Oman Police and Oman Shell Development Company. HE praised their role in the pilot implementation of the (Via) Road Safety Program in the academic year 2022/2023. He explained that the Ministry continues during the current academic year to implement the actual application of the project, which is a global program for teaching road safety targeting students between the ages of (10-18) years. The program aims to familiarize students with risky behaviors on the road, how to avoid accidents and understand the concept of safe behavior on the roads and protect themselves, through interaction and creating creative messages for road safety and creating action plans to implement safety measures on roads and school environments. HE added: “The project is currently being implemented in 33 schools from various educational directorates in the governorates, with a focus on schools in Shell Oman’s concession areas in the governorates of Al Dakhiliyah and Al ADhahirah, where team members from the Ministry and the Royal Oman Police, represented by the traffic safety institutes, are training teachers to implement the program.”
Brigadier Engineer Ali Al Falahi, Director-General of Traffic, stressed that the Royal Oman Police is keen to support initiatives that concern traffic safety through traffic safety institutes in the Sultanate’s governorates, which aim to spread traffic culture and focus on training and qualification for various segments of society. The Brigadier praised the initiative of the Ministry of Education and its interest in instilling traffic culture in the youth, pointing out that the program has a major role and fruitful results in creating a generation aware of traffic safety goals, which transfers information to peers, family members and members of society.
The program included two working papers on its first day. In the first paper, Ali Al-Naamani, a member of the (VIA) Traffic Safety Program team, touched onthe efforts of the Ministry of Education in the field of road safety and provided information about traffic accidents and their impact on society and school age groups. He introduced the (VIA) Road Safety Program to the attendees in general and explained the mechanism for implementing the pilot program previously and its actual application in the current academic year. In the second paper, Badr Al-Abri, a member of the team, provided the attendees with an explanation of the (VIA) implementation by reviewing the study plan and the mechanism for teaching the first unit of the student activity book prepared by the Ministry’s team. The program’s activities continue for two more days through the presentation of other working papers presented by team members from the Ministry of Education and the Royal Oman Police.
