The Ministry of Education, represented by the Directorate-General of Administrative Affairs, in cooperation with the Office of the Undersecretary for Education, and the Arab Center for Educational Training affiliated with the Arab Bureau of Education for the Arab Gulf States, organized this week a program titled “Using Professional Standards to Improve Teacher Performance.” The four-days program targets thirty-eight participants from educational supervision officials in the Ministry’s General Diwan and the educational directorates in the Governorates.
The opening was patronized by Suleiman Al-Harrasi, Advisor to the Minister for Studies and Research, in the presence of Dr. Muhammad Al-Amir, Head of Program Implementation and Evaluation at the Centre. The program took place at Muscat Hall in the Ministry’s General Diwan.
The program includes activities to employ and apply professional standards documents, activities to facilitate the integration of participants with each other, and to activate their participation in tasks and activities, the use of tablets and the Internet during training activities. The program also includes various presentations to clarify concepts and terminology related to standards and future competencies, and interactive work tasks to motivate participants to generate knowledge and its application in realistic situations, and studies of various cases familiar to the participants in order to bring concepts and terminology closer to their life experiences. It emphasizes the interaction of the participants with each other by working in cooperative groups which encourages them to engage in the activities carried out, prompts them to generate commitment and self-conviction to practice new leadership skills, encourages participants to reflect on their behavior during the activity through feedback after performing the required task. It encourages participants to conduct self-evaluation of the tasks they perform while carrying out the tasks and activities carried out during the program and carry out daily tasks that refine the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that participants acquire during the workshop.
The program aims to enable participants to use professional standards to improve teachers’ performance in light of future skills, become familiar with the new
roles required of them in light of the tremendous cognitive development and practice them efficiently, possess the basic cognitive and performance competencies for the teaching profession, and be able to assist their students in their learning during the various stages of education. It also aims to enable them to integrate technology and its tools into effective teaching and learning, to use professional standards to guide their professional growth and improve their performance in light of the competencies of the future teacher. The program also teaches participants about the role of the teacher to support high-quality school performance guided by performance quality standards consistent with the framework of the school of the future, and to master and apply the future skills of the successful teacher.
