The Ministry of Education, represented by the Department of Innovation and Scientific Olympiads, implemented on Monday morning the National Robotics Competition, where (40) students participate in this competition, representing (10) teams from (10) educational directorates from the various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman. This competition comes as the qualifiers for the participation in the World Robot Championship in the United States of America.

The competition consists of a number of challenges, including robot skills, such as the “Driving Skills Challenge,” in which the robot driver controls the robot remotely and collects the largest number of colored cubes from the playing field within (60) seconds. The number of points is calculated based on the number of cubes placed in the goals, their colors, and according to specific rules, and then the points scored by the team are calculated. The second challenge is the “programming challenge match,” in which the robot works under autonomous control for (60) seconds, and the team’s points are calculated by the same rules.

The implementation of this competition confirms the Ministry of Education’s interest in diversifying competitions in the field of robotics and artificial intelligence, which in turn diversifies the situations that excite students and increases their passion for science, engineering, mathematics, and information technology, noting that this competition is being implemented for the first time at the national level.

The competition aims to develop the spirit of creativity among the participants, develop their skills in the field of robotics, and provide a competitive environment stimulating the use of engineering and innovative skills, in addition to achieving honorable representation in tournaments, whether at the local, regional, or global level.
