HE Prof. Dr. Abdullah bin Khamis Ambosaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education for Education, patronized the inauguration ceremony of the second session of the Omani Society of Writers and Literates Award for literary creativity for public and private school students and special education students, which is organized by the Ministry of Education, represented by the Career Guidance and Student Counselling Center, in cooperation with the Omani Society of Writers and Literates. The ceremony was held in the presence of HE Engineer Said bin Muhammad Al-Saqlawi, Chairman of Board of Directors of the Omani Society of Writers and Literates, and a number of employees of the Department of Educational Activities concerned with the cultural aspect, and members of the Omani Society of Writers and Literates and invitees. The inauguration ceremony took place in the Ibn Raziq Hall at the association’s headquarters in Airport Heights.
The ceremony program began with the association’s speech, delivered by HE Eng. Said Al-Saqlawi, Chairman of Board of Directors of the Omani Society of Writers and Literates, in which he said: “The Omani Society of Writers and literates Award for literary creativity for school students is the result of joint cooperation between the Ministry of Education and the Omani Society of Writers and Literates. This fruitful and constructive cooperation we have sought through the educational field’s celebration of this award, and the wide turnout by students from various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman to participate in the award in its first edition, and the second edition comes to emphasize the importance of this existing cooperation between government institutions and civil society institutions to serve and elevate this country and the Omani society.”
HE Prof. Dr. Abdullah bin Khamis Ambosaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education for Education, delivered the ministry’s speech, stating that the long-standing partnership between the two institutions resulted in the first edition of the award with the participation of more than (1,400) students in its various fields. He added that the award in its second edition targets three categories of students: the junior category (6-9 years old) who can compete in the field of poetry recitation and promising speaker, then the junior category (10-13 years old) in the field of poetry
recitation, promising speaker, short stories, and letter literature, and the third category is the young adult category (14 -17 years) in the fields of classical poetry, short stories, and classical speaking.
HE the Undersecretary, Prof. Dr. Abdullah bin Khamis Ambosaidi, added: “Perhaps the project whose foundation stone was laid by Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, may Allah protect him, the “Oman Cultural Complex” is an embodiment of the importance of the cultural and literary aspect and its consolidation in the souls of young people, and this award has great significance for developing and refining the literary sense among students.”
The award aims to strengthen channels of cooperation and communication between the association, the Ministry of Education, educational institutions, and schools. It also aims to highlight the importance of literary work among all segments of society, especially students and young people in schools, and develop the spirit of competition among students in winning literary awards, which contributes to improving their literary productions and enhancing their talents and their creativity, encouraging literary writings by emerging students and adolescents, working to publish the distinguished literary productions of the winners of the competition, strengthening the role of the association in serving society and enhancing awareness of the importance of literature among segments of society, especially young people.
