HE Majid bin Said Al Bahri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education for Administrative and Financial Affairs, patronaged the ceremony announcing the Hassan bin Hashem School for Boys for Post-Basic Education (Grades 10-12) at the Directorate-General of Education in Muscat Governorate as a school affiliated with the Future Partners Schools Initiative (PASCH). The ceremony was attended by HE the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany accredited to the Sultanate of Oman, Dirk Loelke, and Salman Kuhey, Director of the Goethe Institute Muscat. The ceremony took place at the Al Hassan bin Hashem School in Muscat.
This ceremony comes within the framework of cooperation between the Ministry and the German Goethe Institute to add Al Hassan bin Hashem School for Boys for Post-Basic Education (Grades 10-12) among the schools implementing the teaching of the German language in the Sultanate of Oman to be part of the Future Partners Schools (PASCH) program. The inauguration ceremony included a speech by HE the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany accredited to the Sultanate of Oman, Dirk Loelke, in which he welcomed the guests and thanked their cooperation in launching the PASCH initiative (Future Partners Schools), appreciating the efforts of the Ministry of Education in its support of German language education programs in the Sultanate of Oman. HE the Ambassador also indicated that the two sides seek to develop bilateral relations between the two countries, and that he hopes to make more efforts to develop bilateral cooperation programs, wishing the students of the Sultanate all success in studying the German language. After that, the students at Al Hassan School gave a presentation included a conversation in the German language.
On the importance of joining this initiative, Maryam Al-Riyami, Advisor to the Minister of Education for International Educational Relations, Acting Director of the Department of Educational Studies and International Cooperation, said: “The Future Partners School Initiative (PASCH) includes more than (1,800) schools around the world, and the Goethe Institute supervises approximately (550) schools that are affiliated with the initiative, within the national education system in more than (100) countries. Two of the five schools implementing the project of teaching the German and French languages in both Muscat and South Al Batinah governorates have joined the initiative, as this initiative, with its attractive educational offers, contributes to the sustainable qualification of students and teachers alike to study the German language for later practical life at work, believing in the principle that multilingualism opens new horizons and contributes to solving future problems as international learning group schools.”
Samia Al-Rawahi, Senior International Relations Specialist, explained: “The initiative, through the Goethe Institute, coordinates holding an annual camp for students from the Gulf countries. Three camps were held in the Sultanate, and a number of students from the Gulf countries (Kuwait - Qatar - Bahrain - UAE) participated in the camp, which included intensive German language classes in addition to recreational activities and events related to language learning.”
“The initiative provides four scholarships annually to students from affiliated schools to learn the German language in the Republic of Germany, in addition to one scholarship (for a male/female teacher) from German language teachers during the summer vacation period,” she added.
